Bryan's thumb paused on his phone screen. His gaze shifted away from the article he was skimming through, fixating his attention on Celinda. Although she had a smile on her face, she failed to hide the hesitation and worries from her expression.
He turned his attention to the small figures in separate bassinets. "Look at the newborns. Even though they are small, they surely have more strength in their lungs to torment your ears at three in the morning for their needs. While they wail on top of their lungs for attention, it brings awareness to their parents."
"You asked me if I am ready to become a father yet, but this question will always be a no. The reason why nobody can ever be prepared to become a father is because until we actually see and hear our baby's cries, we won't truly process this thought. Yes, excitement and words would always speak positively towards welcoming a child. The eagerness in holding the small life in our hands and meeting this tiny person who would follow our guides in growing up will definitely be there."
Turning to his side, Bryan smiled and stared into her eyes. "I doubt anyone could ever say with a hundred percent certainties that he or she is ready to be a parent. However, I believe most parents would attempt their one hundred and one percent in taking care of their baby along with learning how to be a good parent. Nobody will automatically become a super mom or dad over one night. It's through hard days and nights with countless cries and experience to be knowledgeable."
"I am not ready to be a father, but I am willing to learn how to be one. And while we are teaching our future little ones, we are also learning with them. Nobody is born perfect. Although I have little to no knowledge on how to take care of babies, I will learn through mistakes and become a qualified parent. We can both start from zero and watch our little one grow up in a warm, loving family."
He gently pressed his forehead against hers. "Any more questions, honey?" He chuckled after sensing her worries dissipate.
"Yes. I have more than one question for you, darling." She goofily smiled.
"Hmm? What is it?" He parted his head from hers and waited for her to speak up. As minutes passed, he could only watch her chew her lips nervously. Finally, she took out her phone and started typing something.
A few seconds later, she flipped her phone around and asked. "Darling, do you think we should get blue pajamas set clothing or a pink set? Or should we choose neutral colored one, so it'll work for both gender?"
"Hmm? Why are you asking me to choose when we aren't even on the adoption waitlist yet? Isn't it too early to even know whether we are getting a boy or girl? Plus, I like both as long as we are the ones raising them." He answered without giving a second thought to her hint.
"You really don't get it?" She pointed to the set of baby clothes on her phone and blinked at him.
"Is there something I missed out on? Unless...you mean you've already taken our information and applied for adoption? Are we on a waitlist or something? Are we going to become parents soon?" He started throwing guesses at Celinda, which made her smile widen.
She nodded. "En! Bingo! You guessed right! We will be having a child together! Hahaha~"
"Wait, when did you send in the application for the child?" Bryan scratched his head wondering when she found the time to send in an application without taking his identification documents with her.
"During our vacation, we both signed up for the child." She giggled as she answered his inquiries trickily. She thought to herself, 'This silly man, let's see how long it'll take him to realize that I'm the pregnant one.'
"Huh? But I was with you almost twenty-four hours a day during our entire trip, excluding the restroom and other times. How did this happen? Where was I when this happened?" He tried recalling the times when they were separate and couldn't remember anything.
"You were conscious and aware of what you were doing when this happened. We were both in bed too. Remember? We were busy rolling around in bed and somebody wouldn't let me sleep even though we've exercised many hours?" She threw the most obvious hint she could give him. Biting her bottom lip for the nth time, she almost wanted to laugh at his confused expression.
"Yeah, but that was in bed. I meant when did you apply-" His sentence was cut off when he linked the words she said earlier. His eyes widened when he came up with a conclusion. "Does the child happen to be coming to us in less than eight months?"
"Uh huh. But I need to correct your use of words because our baby is right here." She took his hands and placed them on her lower abdomen with tears surfacing her eyes. "The baby is still too early in the trimester for you to feel its movement. But he or she is right here with us." Her smile spread beautifully.
"I'm going to be a father...I'm going to be a father!!!" Bryan snapped out of his thoughts, happily exclaiming the joyful news. He wanted to wrap his arms around her tightly and spin Celinda around in circles. However, he held back these thoughts because he knew she wasn't one person anymore.
"Yes, baby! You're going to be a father, and I'm going to be a mother. We're going to be parents!" She hugged him emotionally while announcing the news.
"But didn't you say the doctor said you were infertile? Then how?" He trusted Celinda's words, leaving doubts about the results of the body examination.
"The obstetrician-gynecologist in this hospital told me my body was healthy and there was nothing wrong during our examination earlier. I also went through other examinations to see if there is anything wrong with my body. But since I'm pregnant, it either means a miracle happened or the other doctor lied to me in the past. The doctor I've visited in the past was recommended and scheduled by my ex-husband, so there is a chance that the report is fake." She explained.
Bryan mumbled, "If it is really that bastard, then he is too lucky to be dead."
"Huh? Did you say something?" Celinda didn't understand what he said since he said it at a low volume.
"Nothing. Are you hungry? Tired? Is there anything you want to eat? You're absorbing for two people now, so let me know if you want anything. Right! Let me search about pregnancy!" Bryan browsed several sites and added pregnancy books on his Amazon cart.
"Pfft, I'm fine and you can do all this research later. Selina just texted me saying she and Jason are on their way to Kyla's room. Let's meet them there. Hopefully, the two lovebirds got back together. If not, then Isaac better step up his game." Celinda took Bryan's hand and walked toward the elevator at the end of the hallway.
On the other hand, Selina and Jason just stepped out of the elevator on the seventh floor. When they exited, Jason recognized a familiar figure who was entering the elevator. Quickly, he turned around and captured his face. "Grandpa..Lun? Why is he here?"
"Hubby? Is something wrong?" Selina followed his line of sight and stared at the closed elevator doors.
"No, I thought I saw someone familiar just now, but he shouldn't be here. Nevermind, maybe I saw wrong. Let's go." Jason smiled and followed after Selina toward Kyla's room. After the couple left, a few leaves rustled from a tall plant at one of the corners by the elevator. A female in a high ponytail and nurse uniform appeared. She eyed the closed elevator and dialed an unknown number.
Once the other party picked up, she reported. "I've confirmed something quite interesting. Selina is the princess of the Clover's family. She just purchased this hospital, and I checked the identification documents. She is indeed the Clover family's lost daughter and the Clovers confirmed her identity."
Hearing nothing from the other side of the call, she continued reporting her discoveries. "Sir, I also saw Zhou Lun at the hospital. He seems to be visiting someone, but he remained conscious with his surroundings. Should I have someone follow him?"
The man on the call immediately responded to her inquiry. "Chase him and track surveillance cameras. Find out why he is here and what happened while he was at the hospital. Since Selina turns out to be the Clover's missing lady, then it's even better for our plans. I wouldn't need to worry about Antonio's side anymore."
"But sir, you've already exposed a fake DNA report and lab created clone of Selina's corpse...How will you explain it to Antonio? He already investigated this matter and seems to have gotten the report this afternoon..." She stuttered for a brief second before calming down.
The man chuckled in response, "Just say it was a mistake. Anyone could make mistakes after all. Since he already knows she's alive, might as well let him know her real identity as well. Besides, she is supposed to be his fiancee. This would benefit me greatly."
"Yes, sir. I will do as you say." The woman hung up the call and alerted her shadowers about the new tasks. Looking down the hall, the woman eyed Selina's sweet smile with hidden motives in her eyes.
