Nanny Jo didn't say anything about her misgivings though.
Once breakfast was over, Jason put on his jacket and got ready to leave. Seeing this, Karen was even more excited. The huge smile on her face made Nanny Jo excited for her as well. Karen put on her dark violet coat over her lacy baby blue dress and dark brown boots. Jason glanced at Karen but said nothing. He turned around to leave and she quietly followed. They got on the Maybach that had been waiting with Brook in the driver's seat once they were outside and were driven out of the house.
Karen stared out the window excitedly. She would turn and look at Jason with a grateful look and it didn't make him comfortable at all.
Within thirty minutes they had arrived at their destination. Brook took the back gate into doctor Charles' Neurological and psychological hospital. Karen was stunned. She had been here before and had some flashes of memory though she couldn't make sense of it but she could identify that this was a hospital. When they drove into the underground parking lot where ambulances were kept she she knew she hadn't mistaken it. She turned to stare at Jason with a questioning expression, but he didn't bother to explain, he just got off the car. Karen got out after him and rushed to keep up as he took long strides and went and stood infront of the elevator, pressing the button to go up. Karen stared at him bewildered.
"Why are we here?" She asked
"Today's your appointment with the doctor remember?"
"So we're here to see doctor Charles? He didn't come over to our house because we were coming here?"
"The hospital just got some new technology. I wanted you to try it out" Jason answered. He didn't turn to look at her face once as he spoke.
"So are we going out after we leave the hospital?" She asked
"Aren't we out right now?" He asked. Turning to confront her accusing gaze with a straight face.
Karen felt so disappointed as tears came to the corner of her eyes. She turned away from him but kept silent. Seeing her tearing up, Jason felt pain in his chest. But he ignored it and stepped into the elevator which had then opened. Karen followed him obediently with her head lowered. Because he was much taller than her, he couldn't see her face.
They were greeted by Doctor Charles and his team on the 3rd floor and led to his office, where Doctor Charles signalled the nurses to get Karen prepared for the examination. When Karen was sent away, doctor Charles begun to explain the nuances of the examination.
"Our new machinery is a combination of a SPECT scan and new AI technology that calculates previous organ activity and future risks as well. It's very effective in finding causes of neurological complications. I haven't delved Into her memories yet or started questioning her. And the possibility that she has lost some of her memories still exists. After this examination I hope to get the go ahead with memory loss treatments. I think she's ready for it."
"You're the doctor. Do whatever you need to do" Jason said with a small frown on his face.
----
Karen massaging her wrist, where she had received an injection about thirty minutes earlier, was sent to a room with a huge SPECT scanner that seemed to be connected to the walls with brightly lit cables.
"Please lie down" a nurse instructed.
"Where's Jason?" Karen asked carefully
"Master Wu is right behind the screen." the nurse pointed out a part of the wall that seemed like a mirror. Karen turned to stare at it.
Knowing that she was nervous and couldn't see him, Jason pressed a button on the microphone and spoke into the room.
"I'm right here Karen. Just follow the instructions of the nurses."
Hearing Jason, Karen walked over to the machine calmly, laying down with her head on the pillow.
The nurses then came over and strapped belts over her arms, legs and chest. Karen tensed up nervously.
"Is that really necessary?" Jason querried with a frown
"She might not like the process but she needs to be kept in place till the end."
Jason nodded and folded his arms.
At that moment, the nurses started to file out of the room. Karen who had been craning her neck to watch them begun to panic.
"Where are you going?" She asked.
The last nurse turned to comfort her " We can't be in here for the examination, just lie down and it will be over soon." With that, the nurse went out and closed the door behind her.
"No" Karen murmured. She looked down at the straps holiding her down and began to struggle, wriggling her arms and legs to free herself, but she was too tightly bound.
"No, no" she said audibly.
Seeing that she was panicking, Jason tried to comfort her through the microphone.
"Karen, Karen I'm right here. Just sit still for a bit and I'll come and get you alright?"
"Can I get out?" Karen asked fearfully.
"Yes ofcourse, it's fine it's just an examination, I'll bring you right out after."
Hearing his words, Karen who's heart was threatening to pound right out of her chest took deep breaths and tried to stay still.
