Chapter 51 - The Dog, the moon and the wind

Misha walked on as her heels clicked against the cobbled path of the greenway. Few people were jogging at this hour. Few of them were accompanied by their pet dogs. She heard one bark at her. 'Stupid dog', she muttered under her breath, careful not to let the lady hear.

She knew it could see for who she was or rather, what she was. She landed beside some riverside park in the Atmosphere City, when she exited the portal. She wondered why they called the city, 'Atmosphere City'. The park seemed deserted at such late hours, so she could turn into her cat self and jump over the fence. She sighed in relief seeing no one around, as she transformed back to a human and started lazily strolling when this dog had to bark at her.

She scrunched her eyebrows as she thought of her plan. She just came to keep an eye on him. But she was excited. After so many years, she is going to meet him. Would he recognize her? A part of her wanted him to remember her and another part wanted him not to remember her. Her face changed faster than the weather in Autumn. From initial glee to final despair, she looked forlorn. As if the world conspired against her at the same time, the cobbled street in front was just as desolate as the inner recess of her mind.

The beautiful moon casted its pale white light on the lonely streets leaving the shadows of the tall willow trees to accompany the lone people walking at this hour, basking them in the cool, almost peaceful glow. The breeze decided to accompany the lonely moon in its journey for the entire night.

With an unhurried rhythm, the always-so-gentle breeze drifted through the branches of the trees making the leaves flutter and dance in its rhythm. The sweet melody seemed to enchant any soul passing by. It accompanied the fallen, broken, aged, frail leaves rustling and dancing tango, matching their rhythm with its own.

Misha took everything in and thought to herself, 'These two can never be a pair, yet one never stops pursuing the other.' A gentle smile blossomed on her cat-like face. Her long, enchanting, dark hair seemed to dance in its own rhythm following the wind. Her purple orbs searched for someone in those empty streets.

Out of the corner of her eyes, she saw a skinny young man walking along the riverside leisurely. There was nothing special about the boy, but if one looks at him closely, one would notice that there are traces of magic on him.

Misha shrugged off the thoughts and looked at the river again. 'He is supposed to be here. Why isn't he here yet?' Misha thought to herself.

As she enjoyed the beautiful view of New York City at night, she almost forgot about her purpose of coming there, when she heard a bang nearby. She paid no heed to that, but numerous bangs were heard. She thought that it was best to check.
