Chapter 5 - Shock

Grant stomped through the mud puddle. His limbs were heavy and his body sore. The rain was coming down on them like it was working with the toddlers.

'Tiny little thugs, why I oughta... I'm so tired.'

Grant and Phoenicia leaned on each other as they tried to get inside. The mist and the beating afterward left them unable to support their own weight alone.

"This f*****g rain came out of nowhere!"

"Language."

Grant tiredly reminded the very angry Phoenicia.

"F**k language! And f**k you too!"

She replied with all the energy she had left.

"Just shut up so we can get something to eat and rest."

"This is all your fault, idiot!"

She yelled with all the indignant rage she can muster.

Grant quietly trudged for a couple of paces before replying.

"How is this my fault, exactly?"

Somehow using pure fury as a power source, she screeched in his ear.

"IF IT WEREN'T FOR YOU CARRYING DRUGS, WE WOULDN'T BE HERE RIGHT NOW!"

Grant cringed as his ear throbbed.

'How was I supposed to know that you would shatter my tranquilizer's cartridge? But I can't tell her that."

They continued for several seconds before he made a comeback.

"Weren't you the one who decided to throw a massive fireball for asking a question?"

She got indignant and started to heat up.

"That's because you weren't focusing on training!"

"But weren't you the one that used all her magic energy against those kids?"

"They were vicious monsters and you know it!"

"Darn right."

They both nodded in agreement and had a thankfully quiet walk for a few minutes.

"It's still your fault though."

'*sigh This is gonna be a long walk'

They finally got inside after nearly an hour of trudging through the rain.

The very first thing they did was shout in unison.

"F*****g finally!" "Fudging finally!"

After which Phoenicia asked.

"How are you so good at walking while leaning on another person?"

"Practice. Now follow my lead."

Grant started chanting 'one, two, three, four' in tempo as they made their way down the halls.

The people around made way for the sopping wet duo.

Soon enough they made it to a large door.

"One moment."

Grant said as he turned the handle just enough to dislodge the door. From there he raised one leg and kicked the door open with a slam.

Phoenicia noticed something strange about the room. The walls were pale blue with red accents. Intricate designs covered the walls. One particular wall had a large depiction of a coiled dragon.

The room was filled with tables. Candles were placed every few feet, the dim light giving just enough visibility.

There were hundreds of people within the room wearing robes. Even the one holding a large bloody knife at the very back. And every single head was turned to the two wet idiots at the door.

The entire scene would make seasoned warriors pee their pants in fear.

"You took us to the dining room!?"

The exhausted girl cried in disbelief.

"I'm hungry!"

"We're soaking wet and can barely move!"

"Well, I need to get something to eat. Because someone didn't let me get anything before it rained!"

He said emphasizing the word 'someone'.

"But we need to get changed!"

"You want to go by yourself?"

She hesitated.

"Well, no.."

"Than maybe you want me in your room watching you fail at changing out of your wet clothes for half an hour?"

She had a look of disgust.

"What, no-"

"THEN SHUT UP!"

He yelled in full view of half the people in the manor. The hanger was taking over.

"I'm tired! I'm hungry! I'm wet! I had the sudden urge to kill a monkey when I woke up this morning! and I've just about had it! So shut the flipdingleing shist up!

Grant stood there breathing heavily for a few seconds. He saw the surprised look on her face as well as the scene he was making. Guilt twinged in his heart, and he sighed.

"L-look I'm sorry. I'm just tired... Can we please just go and get something to eat, please?

He said giving a begging look at his companion.

She pursed her lips and nodded. And they got lunch.
