The Universe was a vast and mysterious place. Seemingly infinite lights and colors filled the endless void of space. Every particle or speck a star, celestial body, or even plane of existence. Among these bodies held countless chances for life to develop. Everything controlled and set in order by the Natural Law of the Universe.
Creatures of every shape and size inhabited these untold countless planets, planes, and even the void of space itself. But not all creatures had developed equally. Those that had evolved to a level of intelligence beyond their peers were called the Sapient races, the most powerful beings of the Sapient races called the Wise Ones. Every creature had the potential to evolve sapience, but the Sapient races were those who had risen beyond nature, choosing to control it instead. Among these countless races spread across the Universe, one of the most prolific was the human race.
Neither strong nor large, not exceptionally wise nor naturally long lived, humanity seemed mediocre at first glance. But they did have an advantage, it was precisely this mediocrity combined with relatively fast breeding time that let humans flourish. Stronger or smarter races didn't put humans in their eyes as competitors and could care less if they spread throughout nearby territories. Only after humanity had gained a foothold across most of the universe had the other races realized the true danger humans posed, but by then it was too late. Humanity had already joined the ranks of the races who dominated the universe.
But this story is not about humanity's rise to power or some heaven defying individual who could bend the very laws of creation. This story is about a small Black-Iron tortoise that had just been born on the Heaven-Shaking Continent in sector 42 of human controlled space.
