Chapter 1 - The Grand Escape

"Don't let her escape!" "Hurry she's getting away!" I head guards exclaim, but I couldn't look back I couldn't stop running. How could I have been so foolish? Why didn't I just listen? I should never have left home, my mother warned me. They don't accept us, they never will. The world isn't ready for our kind. I felt tears brim my eyes as the yelling became more and more faint, my breathing heavy as my running became more of a stumble then a proper run. Turning my head I see nothing but the light glimpse of the castle lights, sighing quietly I quickly find cover behind a tree hoping to catch my breath, I rest my head along the cold, brittle bark breathing heavily. Was this my end? Truly the king sent guards among masses, I couldn't hide forever could I? "Oh Hesperia, stop it." I muttered to myself before letting my Raven black hair fall into my face. I needed to keep going, I needed to remain hidden from the kingdom, from the world. A soft sigh left my lips as I looked at the chains on my wrists, Taking a deep breath I looked to the crescent moon; "May the gods of the moon hear my plea, Release me from the chains that bind me." I spoke softly, as I looked down watching the light from the moons reflect off my hands and slowly trickle down my wrist before hearing the sound of a breaking chain. I watched as my restrained wrist became free hearing nothing as they fell into the mud covered grounds below me. Relief fell among me. "I don't see her your highness!" I heard a voice say. I quickly pressed my body more against the large willow tree that hid me. "She isn't here either." Another low voice said. "Retreat! We'll continue the hunt at dawn." I heard the rough voice of the king demand. "I'll have her head and every other blasted witches as well." I flinched hearing such hateful words as I heard the sound of hooves slowly fade, and the light of their torches disappear. After what felt like a century I looked back to see nothing but the darkness of the forest the moon lighting some parts. I took a deep breath, before quietly walking into the darkness of the forest, hoping to find something I could call a shelter.

"God my feet ache" I sighed as I continued to walk through the muddy forest. Exhaustion filling my body with every step, I could barely walk I needed to find somewhere anywhere I could lay my head. I winced taking my next few steps, the Kingdom was far behind me, and all I saw from every direction where the shadow colored trees. A small whimper escaped my lips as I fell to my knees. My body couldn't do this anymore, I couldn't move. I looked up my vision even in this darkness I could tell was becoming a blur, I looked down before leaning into the muddy grass. This was home for the night, I took a deep breath before letting my head fall into the mud. I winced slightly due to the feeling of mud filling my hair and rubbing against my pale cheek, before letting my eyes close.
