"Infernal rooster," Caroline mumbled into her pillow. Ender stirred from across the room. She rolled over with the hope of a few more minutes of sleep. The vampire was at her side in a flash, though, his red eyes twinkling. "Sorry, you had to sleep in the chair. It's a miracle Nim even let you stay in here."
Ender shrugged, "It is no matter. I've slept in far worse places. Ovandale may be relatively safe, but I still have no intention of leaving your side."
Caroline nodded and pulled him in close to her. Their lips met in earnest, and she relished the way his mouth fell upon hers. His kiss felt both cold and warm. The paradox of temperatures heightened all of her senses, creating a fluttering sensation down low in her belly that could only be relieved one way.
