Marcaius had been probing with his questions, leaving Lucian drained from the conversation. Ender dodged each of Marcaius' verbal assaults leaving him to fend off the majority of his father's inquiry. Lucian thought himself a skilled diplomat, but in the presence of Marcaius, he felt a true test of his abilities.
And there was still more work to be done this night, and he couldn't stay in this house any longer.
