Chapter 1 - Chapter two.

First term examination was around the corner , Ugomma had no time to read her books due to the ill treatments she got from her aunt. Her uncle is not always the "at home type", He leaves home by 5:30am and comes back by 9:30pm due to the transport business he was into. His transport business is what he uses to pay for Ugomma academic fees, provide for the family and as well support his wife in her provision business .

Her aunt getting to know about the upcoming examination from two two students that were passing and gisting about how they would do better to make their parents proud . Obiageri decided to make Ugomma a very busy girl. She stops over at the shop and Obiageri would tell her to hawk around her shop vacinity. Ugomma knowing how busy and occupied she always is, would read during the break time and would pay attention when lessons are going on.

Ugomma had no friend in school due to the way she stinks and how untidy she always looks. She would be laughed at by some bullies in school, calling her ill names but she would only end up crying because only she really understood how she really felt.

During the examination periods, she would always stay back in school to read for 30mins and she would always end up lying to her aunt that her teacher asked her to help organize the class for the next class tomorrow. After her examinations, the results were out and she did absolutely well

The next day, Ugomma got to school and her presence was demanded at the principal's office where she was given a letter which she opened, with joy she jumped up feeling excited .

Reaching home with smiles, she met her uncle and he demanded for her result which she handed over to him, he opened it and congratulated her saying "Ist" !! With the average of "90.5" wonderful!

"Atleast my spendings on you is not in vain" he said.

He handed The result over to his wife who faked a smile and said congrats.

Though she was confused because she never gave ugomma the time to read and how come she did excellently well; she thought

Ugomma was showered with gifts from her uncle which made obiageri jealous and angry and she promised to cause her more pains.

Things became unbearable for Ugomma she couldn't endure it any longer but to cry all day long. she was now given specific time for everything ; she would be given a heap of clothes and would be told by her aunt to wash them in not less than 30mins and once it exceeds that time, it will be another tragic story for her while crying, she would always remember the loving memories of her caring parents, how she interacts and laugh with her mother but then realize all her wishes and recalls of her parents were all in vain, it is something that will never be a reality.

Ugomma also took consolation for the fact that someday, she will be free, her dreams of getting out of the hell of a house will be over because of the scholarship exam she planned taking after her junior secondary school examinations.
