Chapter 13 - The Receptionist's Shock

The receptionist always woke up to go to the Adventurer's Guild. Everything was always the same. The same people, the same problems, and the same peace. The receptionist welcomed the "normal." In fact, you could say that she preferred the "normal."

Today, however, was different. A young boy that appeared to be around eight years old with black hair and green eyes walked in.

"Hello and welcome. What can I do for you today?"

The boy hesitated.

"Um, I'd like to register."

"Can you read and write or would you like me to do it for you?"

"I can do it!"

The receptionist handed a piece of paper and a quill to the boy. She didn't expect for him to be able to do it and only thought that he said for show.

Much to her surprise, the boy finished the application quickly and handed it to her. The receptionist was trained in hiding her expressions, so she didn't show her shock on her face.

"Would you like to hear the details of the Adventurer's Guild?"

The boy nodded.

"There are seven ranks of adventurers. The lowest is F-rank and the highest is S-rank. An adventurer can accept quests that are the same rank or below. They can also accept a request one rank higher than their own. Children below the age of 12 cannot accept any subjugation quests unless it's in self-defense.

To advance from ranks F and E, a certain number of quests must be taken. For advancing to E-rank, 10 F-rank quests must be taken. For advancing to D-rank, 20 E-rank quests must be successful.

To advance from ranks D to B, they must pass a test. To advance from A-rank, there must be a recommendation letter from an existing S-rank and must pass a test.

There are three types of quests. One type is continuous quests. They are always on the quest board and anybody can take them unless it requires the subjugation of any monster. These have no risks of failure.

Another type is escort quests. They include escorting merchants and other people. Loss of stocks during escort quests must be paid.

The last type is subjugation quests. Unlike continuous quests, a certain rank is necessary depending on the level if danger. Please remember that failure of escort and subjugation quests will require a report and payment unless there's a special circumstance."

The boy left and came back in the afternoon with nine bags bundles of mana grass. If the receptionist was not already shocked, she now was. Mana grass was slightly of hard to find, so a bundle was a small silver.

The boy came back with nine complete bundles in one day. The receptionist handed nine small silvers to the boy who looked satisfied.

When the receptionist came back home, she collapsed onto her bed. Her heart was beating faster. What was this feeling?

(Oh, I got it. It's excitement.)

It seems that she was bored. The receptionist smiled.

(I'm looking forward to the surprises that he will bring in the near future because I have the feeling that it's only going get bigger.)
