I felt like there were some vibrations on my left hand. At first I tried to ignore it and went back to my sleep, until I noticed that there were also lights blinked from my left hand as my eyes were opened up a bit. It was then when I suddenly had myself fully awaken and realized that it must be Nest, trying to reach out to me through my watch. I carefully released Jessica's arm from mine as gentle as I could before I quickly and silently rushed to the front of the door outside and using the blinking lights as my light source since the fire on the fireplace had gone off.
'This is Nest. Black Caiman, if you read me please respond, over.' my watch blinked and vibrated again for I do not know how many times.
'This is Black Caiman. I read you. Do you have something for me?' I replied the message in a hurry.
'Finally.' My watch responded very quickly. 'I was starting to wonder when you will respond.'
Commodore Quentin did not waste any second and jumped straight to the point about the new information that he had to share with me. It was about the confirmations and strong possibilities about both of Billy's and my hypothesis regarding the flying aliens. However, he could not say which one was more accurate than the other since, like what Billy had said earlier, we basically had to do an autopsy of the whole alien's body.
Then, the next thing that I asked to him was whether or not there would be changes of the weather for the day. He responded that the Commander General was just about to contact Billy right away since there was a drastic change in the weather forecast for the area, especially during the afternoon and until the rest of the day.
He said that the possibility for rain to fall had increased to eighty percent, as opposed to the previous fifty, and in a larger rate. That would mean that later in the afternoon, the three of us would have to expect a rainfall worse than the previous day, and would also proof to be a difficult hindrance for us since we would have to traverse on uneven grounds later on.
'There is one more thing.' my watch messaged me again.
'Yes, sir?' I replied right away.
'According to the satellite imaging that we have received no more than an hour ago and the geophysical board, there is an unidentified fresh crack just one kilometer below the mountain peak. If the aliens arrived on earth somewhere in that region, then that must be at least the trace of their landing.' my watch detailed the information.
'With all due respect, sir. Why did not the board send those imaging way earlier before?" I replied to the message, confused.
'You may want to see how many and how thick the clouds were on top of that region, son. Both the cartographers and the geophysicists are currently even still bugging their eyes out for any other details and unfamiliar features on the only faintly clear image that we managed to take.' My watch sent me the message, as if the person who had transmitted it was rather pissed by my question.
'I see.' I responded, totally at loss on what other words to say.
'I suggest that the three of you move out now, or you will have to deal with various obstacles later on your journey.' my watch added.
'Roger that. We will move out right away, Nest. Over and out.' I ended the transmission.
Once I had finished, the first thing that came to my mind right away was to check what time it was. I took out my flashlight that I had kept inside the spare jeans that I wore and lighted my watch as I saw that the time was exactly 04.30 a.m. Realizing that dawn was imminent, I quickly changed to my original t-shirt, body armor, uniform pants and combat boots, which had all dried up before I put inside all of my spare clothes inside my backpack and went back inside to wake both Billy and Jessica up.
"Hey, Bill. Wake up." I said to him with a low voice, as I shook his right shoulder three times.
He woke up with a little jump, as he swiftly aimed his submachine gun on his hip towards my direction. Thankfully, he did not fire right away or I would have my body armor damaged, and might even receive several unwanted gunshot wounds. I was quite impressed by his alert to sudden movements nevertheless.
"Whoa. It is me." I lifted my right hand up, and aimed my left hand that was holding my flashlight down, giving him some sort of light source to be able to see me clearly.
"Sorry… what is it?" he replied to me as he quickly aimed his submachine gun away.
"I received a message from HQ. They said that the weather forecast for today has changed drastically. The probability of a rainfall from the afternoon and until the rest of day suddenly increased to eighty percent." I detailed the information quickly to him.
"You have got to be kidding me!" Billy responded with a louder tone and his eyes bugged out, officially making him fully awake then. "What time is it now?"
"Four thirty six." I answered him as I looked at my watch.
"Urgh! That means we should have gone out from an hour ago." Billy muttered as he looked down and quickly got up on his feet before he rushed outside with his flashlight turned on.
With Billy had gone outside, most likely to change to his original equipment, I quickly approached Jessica to wake her up. Unlike Billy who had himself in alert in his sleep, Jessica seemed to have a more relaxed rest.
"Jess. Wake up…" I spoke to her softly, as I shook her right shoulder gently.
"Hmm? Travis?" she opened up her eyes slowly, showing that she was still rather sleepy.
"We have to move out now. There may be a heavier rainfall later in this afternoon and will most likely last for the rest of the day." I explained to her about our current situation as brief as possible.
"Huh?! O-okay!" she responded to me, instantly woken up and preparing herself to move out in a hurry.
Just then, Billy headed inside again, with his full gears equipped. He glanced at Jessica, and then to me, before he only nodded twice and approached me in a quick pace.
"The Commander General told me that Commodore Quentin has briefed you about the updated information just now." Billy said to me.
"Oh, that. Yes, he has." I responded to him as I noticed Jessica approached us, fully ready to go.
"Okay. Best to keep it for later as we go." Billy replied to me as he began to go outside of the house, already with his backpack. "I will wait for you outside, quick."
I put on my backpack in a rush and let Jessica went out first as I followed right behind her. Finally going outside again, the surroundings around us were still completely dark, forcing both me and Billy to keep our flashlights turned on in order to proceed our way deeper and higher to the mountain.
"Well, let us go…" Billy said to both Jessica and I as he began to not walk, but rushed towards the west direction, opposing the house we had taken a shelter in.
I took a deep breath before following and catching up with them, beginning our journey of six kilometers before reaching halfway to the mountain peak. I just hoped that we could pass through the narrow cliff later on before the rain fall…
