Chapter 2 - Darena

Another world? That sounds crazy, but my grandparents have never lied to me before.

What do I love doing the most? I recalled the audition that I had attended when I was ten.

•••

"Number 27, you're up!" a lady with glasses called.

I gulped. I was quite nervous since it was my first audition. One of the judges started questioning me. "What's your name?"

I answered, "My name is Eva Rose Solis. It's nice to meet you!" The judges nodded in approval at my answer and continued questioning me.

After asking some questions, a man in a suit said, "Okay, can you sing a song for us?"

I nodded and they played the music for the song that I filled out on the application.

"Life... it's a torrent of disasters~

Just who... will save me from my tears~?

As I pondered the answer to that question,

You~ you came along...

You wiped away my tears~

Embraced me gent~ly

And warmed my very soul...

I lost my heart... to you~

Will you make my life...

Grow stronger~

...Or disappear~

My heart is growing bigger...

My life growing brighter...

You, who entered my life...

Is my ray of light~~!

My bleak world seems ever so bright...

With you~ standing by my side~~

I feel that even the tallest mountains can't block me~

I will tread countless paths with you~ by my side...

I lost my heart... to you~

Will you make my life...

Grow stronger~

...Or disappear~

Now, you're breaking my heart....

Only to mend it again...

Just what~

What are your true feelings?

Life... it's a torrent of disasters~

Just who... will save me from my tears~?

As I pondered the answer to that question,

You~ you came along...

You stole my heart... when you saved me from my tears~

But once again~

I'm in tears~

...Because of you..."

When I finished, the judges were in tears. One of the judges stood up and slammed the table. I jumped back a little in surprise. "This is it! Close the audition! This is the talent that we are looking for!"

I tilted my head. I had no idea what was going on. The judge grabbed my shoulders. "Will you work for our agency?"

"Y-ye—" Before I could answer, Elena suddenly burst in through the door ad hugged me.

"Eva, my beloved sister! How could you do this? Your vocal cords are too weak to withstand the burden of singing so much!"

"That's not—"

"Oh, Eva! I know you wanted to sing for our dead grandparents, but you can't do this! You'll ruin your voice!"

The judge looked at me seriously. "Is that true?"

I shook my head and tried to say no, but Elena interrupted me again. "Eva, you shouldn't lie! This is for your own good!"

Then, Elena suddenly turned to the judges and said, "Won't you let me sing in her place?"

I gaped at Elena. So, that's what she was aiming for! She wanted to steal my spot!

The judges decided to let her try and nobody believed that I was perfectly fine. Elena sung the same song as I did and the judges clapped.

"Bravo! This is good enough to rival her sister! It's a pity that her sister has weak vocal cords or else they would have made a good duo!"

When I tried to tell them that I was fine, Elena dragged me away after thanking the judges.

•••

That's right! I was frustrated because I wanted to sing, not because she stole my spot! I finally realized that I loved singing the most!

I grabbed my camping supplies and the small book that my grandparents gave me when I was six. I didn't know why they would give me a blank book, but all they said was, "You'll find out in the future." Were they referring to this?

I decided to say the rhyme because I figured that there was no harm in trying. It was a simple rhyme that my grandparents taught me to cheer me up.

"Peace and quiet, you can never buy it. Happiness and love, will help you soar like a dove."

As soon as I finished the rhyme, I was blinded by a bright light and when I opened my eyes, I saw a courtyard with many balconies similar to the one that I was in. The many balconies reached so high that I couldn't even see some of them. In the balconies, there were some humans, demi-humans, and many more. Their hair and fur were all unusual colors.

In the middle of the courtyard was a platform with a rabbit that was standing. "Okay, row 156 will now be teleported."

The row of balconies that I was on dropped a level. I was surprised by the sudden change. The row that the rabbit referred to probably meant the 156th row of balconies today.

In a few moments, the row that I was on almost reached the ground.

"Okay, row 168 will now be teleported." After a bright flash of light, I was standing in front of a banner that said 'Welcome to Darena!'
