Chapter 52 - Geroux

Mu Zi met Mu Zening's advice with silence.

The truth was, Mu Zi had no sense of existence in the Mu family. Although Mu Zening was her sibling, they could go the entire year without speaking a word to the other.

Mu Zening was clueless as to why he could not help but pay attention to his little sister recently.

He looked at the girl in front of him.

She was very beautiful, and with her thick black makeup washed off, her face was white and smooth, like a finely carved doll that exuded exquisiteness. Her eyes, especially, were like inky gems that seemed to absorb the brilliance of the sun and shone from within.

A breeze blew, and the flowers swayed behind her, giving her a kind of enchanting beauty.

Mu Zening went into a daze for a moment. In his trance, he seemed to have seen a familiar image on her.

"Third brother," she said softly. Her tone was subdued. "I should go back."

Mu Zening suddenly woke up from the charming illusion.

"Zizi, don't be willful." He advised her as how an older brother would. "Mu Ling was wrong and caused you to suffer, but eldest brother has already promised to do anything he can to make it up to you. You can also make Mu Ling apologize to you, but it's definitely impossible for you to go to Geroux. Aunt Qiao will come and discuss mediation with your mother."

Mu Zi did not want to bother with him, but she could not help but freeze when she heard Qiao Jingjia being mentioned.

"...Qiao Jingjia?" Mu Zi was slightly surprised. "She's only an intern. She has no right to interfere with the investigation of the case."

"She's a prosecutor now." Mu Zening looked at her as if she was a child who was not sensible. "The prosecutor has the right to decide to file a case, initiate, or terminate a criminal investigation. Your case can only be regarded as a public security case, and Aunt Qiao will not file an investigation."

Mu Zi could not help but mutter, "Qiao Jingjia worked as an assistant for three years, but she became a prosecutor immediately after sister-in-law died? …"

Mu Zening's expression twisted. When the two incidents were mentioned in the same sentence, it gave people a sense of betrayal and guilt.

Mu Zening said in a low voice, "According to the regulations, after graduating from the Judicial Research Institute, one will enter the procuratorate for one to three years and can become a formal prosecutor after the internship period. Aunt Qiao has been interning for three years, so it's reasonable for her to be promoted to a prosecutor. Zizi, don't say something like that in the future."

Mu Zi smiled at Mu Zening's rebuttal for Qiao Jingjia. "Third brother, although I'm young, I know some things about the procuratorate. Qiao Jingjia did her internship under sister-in-law. How did she rise to a prosecutor without sister-in-law to nominate her?"

Without waiting for Mu Zening's answer, she continued, "There are other interns besides her under third sister-in-law. Everyone else was promoted after two years, so why would sister-in-law keep pressing down on her application?"

Mu Zening's expression finally changed. He looked at Mu Zi with eyes that looked like he was seeing something unfamiliar.

Mu Zi smiled thinly, and a sharp edge flashed in her innocent and harmless black eyes. She said, "It's because Qiao Jingjia's abilities aren't adequate for her to be a prosecutor. Even after interning for three years, she can only be an assistant! Third brother, I'm not afraid of Qiao Jingjia, and I don't care about Mu Ling's apology. I'm going to Geroux."

—'I'm going to Geroux.'

Mu Zening stared at Mu Zi, who turned to leave. He was speechless by her words.

Then, Mu Zi suddenly stopped and turned to look at him with a mocking smile.

"By the way, third brother, were you sitting here reminiscing about sister-in-law?"

Mu Zening did not know why she suddenly asked that question.

Mu Zi's eyes were frigid as she said slowly, "At the very least… Shouldn't you reminisce after wiping off the lipstick prints on your neck?"

Mu Zening's face went white!

He hastily rubbed his neck in mortification, but when he looked up again, Mu Zi's figure was already gone...
