Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Return of Heaven's Proud Son (Part 8)

"Mom, I'm fine. Grandpa is angry, just go have breakfast," Ji Anning pushed Yang Yufang toward the dining room.

Yang Yufang looked at her with concern, "Then you should go upstairs and apply some ice. If it doesn't get better, ask Dr. Zhang to take a look."

"I know."

Finally, after sending Yang Yufang away, Ji Anning breathed a sigh of relief, leaned against the stair railing, and looked in the direction of the dining room, reminiscing about Ji Ruoqian's resentful demeanor just a moment ago, as she coldly curved her lips.

Gone was any trace of the weak little rabbit from before, and in its place was a sly, scheming little fox.

Suddenly, she felt a gaze on her... from above!

She turned her head sharply, looking towards the top of the stairs, her heart skipped a beat, and her recently lowered hands also trembled.

That lofty, disdainful gaze...

Ji Anning was startled for a moment and then composed herself, her voice trembling slightly, "Uncle... Chicheng."

And just like that, she changed back from a cunning little fox into a scared little rabbit.

Such a change of character was not something ordinary people could pull off.

After calling out to him, she shyly shifted her gaze away, her hands nervously pulling back, tightly gripping the hem of her dress.

The man's indifferent gaze, sharp as nails, pinned her feet to the spot, and she couldn't move.

How long had this guy been standing there? She didn't dare look at his face, nor did she dare meet his deep-set eyes—as soon as she did, it felt as if he could see right through her.

How much of her and Ji Ruoqian's act from before had he seen?

"Hmm!"

His cool response made Ji Anning's heart sink even more, beating rapidly.

Just as she was biting her lip and mustering the courage to go upstairs, footsteps suddenly sounded from above.

He... was coming down!

The man descended step by step, dressed in smokey grey loungewear, which completely differed in style from the white shirt he wore in the car earlier, yet the impression he gave off was the same.

Crisp and bright, clean, and radiant.

That handsome face had lost the greenness and naivety of his youth from three years ago, but the look in his eyes and his expression remained... arrogant! Indifferent!

Especially those slightly upturned, almond-shaped eyes, coldly beautiful yet filled with allure.

Like a deep vortex, one glance could suck you in, never to emerge.

After three years, the favorite grandson who the grandfather treasured was finally back, and it seemed like the household was set to become unsettled again.

A disaster indeed, a true disaster.

Ji Chicheng's footsteps grew nearer, his tall figure, along with his cold aura, moved closer to her, and she bit her lip, still too scared to look at his face.

Only when that faint, subtle fragrance hit her nostrils did she finally gather the courage to look up and smile at the man who had reached her, "Uncle, I'm going upstairs now."

Ji Anning gave Ji Chicheng a slight nod, then lowered her head and lifted her foot, quickly brushing past him.
