Jade's legs felt heavy as she forced herself to rise from the bed, each step toward him filled with trepidation.
The room felt colder with each step, the thin fabric of her scant clothing doing little to protect her from the chill. She was painfully aware of how exposed she was, her every movement only accentuating her vulnerability.
Clark's gaze flickered over her as she approached, his expression unreadable. Yet, when she finally stood before him, close enough to see the fine details of his crimson robe, his eyes softened ever so slightly.
"You must be cold," he said, his voice almost a whisper, a contrast to his earlier detachment. Without waiting for a response, he reached into his storage ring once more and produced a heavy cloak, its material rich and warm.
