Chereads / LWS: Liye's Legacy / Chapter 2 - Choosing a Name

Chapter 2 - Choosing a Name

"Master Liye..."

The young man muttered to himself before continuing.

"Master Liye, please tell me what I must do to pay your benevolence."

Hearing the young man's words, Liye laughed.

"I haven't even given you a name yet, and are you already thinking about paying my benevolence? Well, you are going fast. Anyway, I don't want anything in return."

Seeing that the boy didn't understand the situation, Liye continued.

"It was fate that we met, and that is why I have accepted you as a disciple, I have no intention of asking you something for it. If you still want to thank me, you should first be at least as strong as me and then find my reincarnation. If fate wants us to meet again, I will be happy to accept your help, but don't try to force our meeting."

Liye knew that the young man in front of him had good intentions, but he didn't want that the young man to become obsessed with returning the favor because that kind of obsession wasn't good. Having a goal and strong resolution was fine and important, but Liye knew that being blinded by goals could have dire consequences, and the young man in front of him seemed like the type that would do something like that if no one told him about it.

"Then how strong should I be?"

The young man had understood that there was no way someone like his master needed the help of a weakling.

"At least as much as me right now, and although I think my reincarnation is going to take a long time, reaching this level again should be quite fast having all my memories, so if you want to help me, you better try to overcome my current self."

Liye laughed while he spoke because he knew very well how difficult it was for someone to reach his level and even more so for a normal guy like that young man. That was even if the young man accepted his legacy.

"But I don't know how strong the master is..."

The young man just muttered those words, but Liye didn't fail to hear them.

"My level is called the Law God, and I am considered one of the five most powerful Law Gods of the moment. Although I have never met the other four, so I don't know which of us is stronger."

"So, he really is a God..."

The youth's veneration for his master only increased as he wished one day to become as strong as him.

"All the information regarding the training you may need will be included in the legacy, so don't worry too much now about levels that are far from your reach."

A light flew towards the slave's body and merged with it.

[Congratulations on accepting Master Liye's legacy. This is the Legacy System, at your disposal to guide you in your training instead of Master Liye.]

The slave couldn't understand where that voice he heard in his head came from, but he knew it was something his master had done.

"You can investigate the system later. Now I would like to give you a name since it is a little sad that you don't have one."

As someone who had a lot of names, he couldn't allow his legacy disciple to not have one.

"Master Liye, what is a system?"

Master Liye sighed before explaining.

"Well, I guess this comes first... You can think of the system as an artificial form of intelligence that is going to help you in my place. I have prepared another system to help me after my reincarnation. The Legacy System is an outdated version that I modified in case I found someone to accept it, but the latest version, the Last Wish System, can only be used by me."

"Last Wish System? I don't understand those words."

"It is in the language of my planet, so it is normal that you don't understand it. Anyway, although it has meaning, the fact that it has meaning is a mere coincidence. Its true reason isn't as simple as that, but that isn't something you should inquire about.

The slave was surprised that his master was from another planet, but he thought that these matters were still too far away for him, so he stopped asking.

"No more questions? Well, let's get back to the matter of your name. From what I see, your talent in general isn't very good, but your talent in the elements of earth and wind is decent enough. How about something simple related to them in the languages of other planets? Something like Terra or Kaze. Although you may want to face your past and choose a name related to your slave name, for example, Shiba, which in the language of another planet corresponds to the last two numbers of your slave number. Well, take your time to choose, like if you want to take all three. It's okay to have a lot of names.

Master Liye laughed as he spoke, but the slave could see Master Liye's presence was decreasing.

Being able to laugh in front of the gates of death was something that made the slave respect Master Liye even more.

"The Path I have passed down to you is called the Fake Origin Path. Don't let the word fake discourage you. It is the second-best type of Path in the universe, much better than what you can get on this planet. I trained this Path myself, although I have something much better for my next life.

Master Liye laughed again.

"Although I admit that obtaining it has also been what has left me in this state, I don't regret it."

The slave wasn't going to complain no matter what he received, but hearing that he had received the second-best Path, which was equivalent to the second-best method of training, left him speechless.

Moreover, he could deduce that Master Liye had obtained the best method at the cost of having ended up in that state.

If even a being as powerful as Master Liye had ended up so badly to get it, he didn't even want to think what could happen to a mere former slave if he coveted it.

"Don't think about this too much because you don't fulfill the conditions to train the method that I obtained. Even I have to reincarnate in order to train it. The requirements are very strict. Instead, the one I have given you is much simpler to train, and the difference isn't very big until you are much stronger than I am now."

The slave was just over thirteen years old, while the Path that Master Liye had obtained required starting to train it from the age of ten. Moreover, even before being ten, certain conditions had to be fulfilled.

"Master, I am already satisfied with what you have given me. Someone like me isn't worthy of coveting more."

Having lived as a slave all his life, he couldn't help but degrade himself when speaking.

"My time seems to be running out. It has been a short time, but I hope this meeting allows you to achieve your goals. You don't need to be so humble in the future, or you will cause others to abuse you. Just remember to don't be obsessed about power and go to the opposite extreme, or you could end up becoming someone like the ones you hate."

Master Liye had practically vanished completely. Even the former slave could tell that his life was about to fade away, but even in that situation, Master Liye's concern was for the well-being of his legacy disciple.

People who had suffered as much as that former slave tended to end up blinded with power and revenge, and often ended up being much more ruthless than those who had mistreated them in the past.

Of course, Master Liye didn't see wrong that his disciple obtained revenge after becoming strong, rather he hoped that he would, but he wouldn't like that his disciple became a tyrant who mistreated innocents.

"Don't worry, master. I would rather die than use the opportunity you have given me to abuse the innocents that are weaker than me.

Revenge was something he didn't intend to give up after gaining enough power, but he definitely didn't want to become someone who harmed those weaker than himself just because he was stronger.

Master Liye disappeared after hearing the words of his legacy disciple, who bowed before his teacher disappeared.

There was nothing left of his master, neither body nor objects. Everything that could be left behind had been taken by the friend who helped Master Liye to get there.

After all, Master Liye hadn't thought that someone would find him, so he decided to not keep anything material there. It was enough that he had prepared the Legacy System just in case he found someone on the way to that planet.

As for why he didn't even leave a body, the slave couldn't understand it, but to begin with, his knowledge was practically only what he had heard his owners speak, so he didn't have much confidence in what he knew either.

"I had never felt my body so light..."

The slave tried to move and saw that his body was in much better shape than before.

In fact, he could tell that his skin was no longer as dark as before, a color that the skin had due to being constantly burned by the sun.

Although it was still far from the perfect skin that Master Liye had, at least it didn't look like the skin of a slave, but rather that of an average worker of a poor family.

His malnutrition problems and other problems in his body were also completely gone.

Although it wasn't too relevant compared to other changes, he also noticed that his hair had grown a bit.

"This is all thanks to the master. I will never forget his kindness..."

The former slave muttered to himself before remembering that he hadn't chosen a name yet.

"A name, huh? It isn't that I want to remember that I've been a slave, so I should dismiss Shiba, but at the same time, is it really okay to want to forget my past? No, on the contrary, I must use it to improve myself. Shiba will be my name from now on. I must use this name at least until obtaining my revenge."

Shiba's improvements hadn't been only physical but also mental. His thinking ability had increased dramatically compared to before. The effects of even a small part of the power of a dying Law God couldn't be underestimated.
