"You're one to talk." Alexandre chuckled, and then it registered that if I could smell the arousal on him, he could definitely smell it on me.
"Ugh. You don't play fair." I whined, yanking my hand out of his grasp pettily. He chuckled and wrapped his arms around me.
"No, and you love it." He replied, kissing my neck.
The run home became more of a race, with me laughing and gasping for breath by the finish as Alexandre growled and caught me from behind. He opened the door to our house and I made a beeline for the kitchen.
"Thirsty?" Came Alexandre's voice. I nodded. "I'm headed to the study, sadly I have some work to catch up on. If you need me..."
"I know where to find you." I blew a kiss at him and smiled softly. He hesitated for another moment before turning to walk down the hall. I eagerly raided the blood bags in the kitchen, the poured an extra cup for Alexandre. Slurping eagerly at my cup, I walked down the hall towards Alexandre's office, then paused just outside the door when I noticed he was on the phone. He motioned me in, so I entered quietly and laid the cup on his desk. He smiled at me and mouthed a thank you. I turned to go but he grabbed my hand, then covered the phone receiver.
"Stay?" He whispered, and then went back to answering the other party on the phone, eyes still begging. I shrugged, and walked around the office sipping my drink. It sounded like Alexandre was dealing with his finances, but the numbers didn't sound real. I looked at him askance, but he avoided my gaze. Deciding there was nothing in this room that I could legitimately occupy my time with at the present, I walked towards the couch and eyed it suspiciously. It smelled new, yet looked exactly like the old one. I didn't notice Alexandre had gone silent until he spoke.
"You broke the old one, so I had it replaced." He informed me with amusement. I jerked and blushed.
"Ahh..yeah, sorry about that...again." I replied sheepishly and sat primly on the edge. Alexandre chuckled softly and grabbed his mug, taking a long drink before turning back to his work. I waited a few more minutes, sipping at my cup to see if he had anything else to say before standing and heading towards the door.
"Carys, wait, where are you going?" Alexandre asked suddenly.
"Well, you just invited me here to keep you company," I said flippantly and his face fell "I figured I could at least go get a book to pass the time." As I finished a sunny smile broke across his face, making my heart skip a beat. I tripped my way out of the room to retrieve a medical text to read.
My return was greeted with another glowing smile and enthusiastic kiss, which made it hard for me to concentrate on the book I was trying to read. I read the same passage about the role of calcium in the body three times without remembering any of it. My eyes kept drifting back to Alexandre, now hunched over his desk, writing in a book of some sort. Such a simple thing to make him so happy. I shook my head and made myself stare at the page again. I got as far as calcium's role in many vital processes in the body before my eyes were on his back again.
"Carys, that's making me uncomfortable." He said in a quiet voice. I twitched.
"Dang vampires." I cursed and he swung around to look at me with an exasperated expression on his face.
"Of which you are one." He pointed out, with patience.
"Yeah, but I don't have that creepy Dracula 'know what people are thinking' gift." I answered, rising from the couch and stepping towards him. His nostrils flared.
"What are you planning?" He asked me with mistrust. I stalked closer. "Carys..." He warned, but I continued forward. "Your mood, is...unreadable..." Alexandre sniffed more openly this time "too many too tell.." He hesitantly scooted back in the chair as I drew nearer.
"Carys, I don't know what you're planning to do, but...Carys!" He growled as I pounced forward, placing my hands on the arms of his chair to give him a chaste kiss on the lips and then sit on his lap as if nothing had happened.
"At least this way, I won't be staring at you." I said, and he looked at me incredulously.
"What was all that for?" He waved dramatically.
"Oh that? I just like to see you squirm." I replied, echoing an earlier statement of his. He growled and nipped at my neck playfully, but turned back around and went back to work, an arm settled comfortable around my waist.
Apparently, he was trading stocks, or evaluating stocks, I'm not entirely sure. The whole thing went entirely over my head, but he eagerly prattled on about it, so I followed as best I could, even though I told him I didn't understand it. He just seemed delighted to share with someone, so I watched him try to explain how he decided which stocks he thought might be valuable to buy or sell, and how to try to determine the timing of it all. I brushed a lock of hair from his forehead as he grinned at me like a child showing off a watercolor painting.
"Do you understand?" He asked.
"Not at all." I replied. "But if you keep trying to teach me, I'm sure I'm bound to pick up something." He hummed happily in agreement and squeezed my waist.
"You're very bright, so I'm certain of that." He kissed my temple and turned back to his work. I watched him make some more calculations for a while, before leaning back into his embrace and closing my eyes, just enjoying the sensation of being close to him for a while. Alexandre leaned his forehead against my back.
"I think I'm about done for the day." He said tiredly. I nodded. I knew he couldn't see it, but was sure he could feel the motion and the adjustments it caused in the rest of my body. I ran my hand along his arm and twisted my fingers into his, knocking my head back against the top of his own gently.
"You deserve it. You're still healing, yet here you are doing all of this work, and running around, and chasing skirts." I commented. Alexandre harrumphed.
"The only skirt I've been chasing is yours, and you seem to be doing an equal amount of chasing." He countered, nibbling at my neck. A shiver ran through me.
"How dare you sir! I was a chaste virgin until I met you." I said, sounding as offended as I could. He turned me to face him, kissing me hard.
"You say that like it's a bad thing that I was experienced." He said running a hand down my throat.
"Not a bad thing, certainly." I said, wiggling as the hand continued downward. "In fact, one could say you are indeed a sexual predator, with all your skills and vigor. There is no way an innocent girl like me could ever resist." The hand paused just below my waist.
"A predator you say?" A light shone in Alexandre's eyes and his fingers inched downward.
"An incubus! A fiend!" I squealed, trying to escape him as his hand hovered between us right where I knew it was going to. He leaned in closer as I tried to move back, giggling.
"Would a fiend wait for your consent?" He breathed and I reached for him to kiss him, but he set me on my feet instead.
"Oh now, that was really fiendish." I pouted and he chuckled evilly as he scooped me up and carried me off to bed.
We both slept hard and Alexandre sighed heavily when he got out of bed the next afternoon. I slept in a little and brought him a cup of blood and sat around with him for a while while he worked, and that was our routine for the next few days.
One day he pulled me to his side to tell me he had informed one of his contacts about the connection we'd found between victims, and they said there wasn't a lot to go on, but they'd look into it. I kissed him on the cheek happily, and that turned into a more, thorough, exercise of thanks, which resulted in a broken computer screen, which Alexandre said he was going to replace anyway, the liar. The garden was slowly transitioning to fall, and the autumn plants had started to come in. The koi were receiving regular treats from me whenever we took a walk out their direction, and they eagerly recognized me by sight or the sound of my walk now; which I found hilarious, all their little eager faces coming to the surface with their mouths gaping.
