Daniel was a young man in his mid thirties. Like Liang Jie, he too came from an unprivileged background. When still in college, he was discovered by Mr. Nicolas's previous assistant Mr. Elbert and since then Daniel's life with Mr. Nicolas began. Something that Daniel himself could never dream in his humble circumstances.
As for Mr. Nicolas, Daniel proved to be his most valuable addition. He was sensitive to his surroundings, had excellent adaptability, was a keen observant and had a great instinct. All these qualities combined with Mr. Elbert's training turned an introvert young boy into the third most fearsome figure in the underworld just after Zhuang Gohan and Mr. Nicolas.
Still, Daniel never forgot his roots nor did he ever allowed his position to get into his head. His attitude and demeanour remainded the same as it was back then. Only difference was that over time he got over his insecurities and became more open to communicate with.
