Chapter 12 - Reminisce

I totally screwed up, I know it" Blair paced the room.

"I shouldn't have gone into his Chambers" she caressed the Lapis Lazuli necklace, "oh how I wish I didn't have to rely on your power to stay hidden, even my name is a lie" she pulled the necklace from her neck, nothing seemed to change for her but she knew it'll be different if someone barged in on her. Good thing her door was locked.

She took a deep breath as she closed her eyes taking a trip down the memory lane.

💭💭💭

"Lia, are you certain you want to do this?".

"I'm sure, it'll be like an adventure I never had" she held the Lapis Lazuli necklace to her face, admiring the gemstone, "what's this meant for again?".

"How many times do I have to go over this?" He pinched the bridge of his nose, "would you please stop gawking at the necklace?" He said clearly frustrated.

"Alright!, I've dropped it" she placed it on the wooden table, "what were you saying?" She grinned.

*Sigh* "you must keep this necklace with you at all times, it is pertinent in your quest -"

"to find the egg.. blah blah blah.. gain King Gale's trust.. blah blah blah.. what was the last part again?!" She had a smug look on her face, satisfied she's causing a little mischief amidst the tense mood her father was in.

"Most importantly" he said through gritted teeth, "do not let any get too close to you or your illusion will be uncovered, this includes hugs, displays of affection like kissing, *cough* physical activities, with the exception of handshakes and a pat on the shoulder" he rambled, to his dismay his daughter seemed to be in a daze as her gaze fell on the necklace once again.

"Are you even listening?!" He yelled.

"Yes, yes" she tore her gaze from the gem, facing her father.

"If that's correct, what was the last thing I said?" He challenged.

"You said em.. oh yes you I could shake someone but no physical contact like kissing" her cheeks flushed with a tint of red, "not that I would actually do that, boys are so uncool, no offense father!".

"Was that all I said?" He facepalmed as she missed some vital information.

"Well-" she twirled her fingers thinking of a plausible excuse.

"You two should wrap what you're doing, dinner's ready" her mother called.

Lia was happy the distraction came along, "so if we are done here, I'll be heading to eat now" she swiftly grabbed hold of the necklace.

"We would have to finish our discussion after dinner" he stood up, "remember be cautious in your actions" he whispered in her ears before leaving the room first.

*Boom* the crash propelled Lia backwards as thick smoke engulfed their home, broken wood from the ceiling trapping her in place. She tried moving but an overwhelming pain prevented her from doing so. She was about speaking when she heard a menacing voice.

"Mr Lowell" she forced her head to look in the direction of the dining area where the person had called her father's name, she saw her parents lying helplessly on the floor injured, she forced down the pain as she struggled to get free.

"Do you remember me?" The voice continued, "of course you wouldn't with your ego getting in the way" he mocked as he laughed at their pitiful state. Lia broke free she was about to jump in to save her parents.

"Please don't, remember what I told you!" when she heard her father's weak plea even though he faced his opponent, his words were directed to her. She paused abruptly as tears flowed continuously, he was using himself as a distraction as the person for some reason doesn't know of her existence, so she hid.

"Rodriguez" he said with spite, "what do you want with my family?".

"That's King Rodriguez to you" he yelled, "you thought little peasants like you could escape the castle with the knowledge of where the egg lay!, Tell me where it is and I might consider sparing you both".

Lia could see her mother pale with each agonizing minute as she closed her eyes slowly. "Mother please don't" she had wanted to call out but held her mouth shut with her hands.

"I would never give you the information, you can do whatever you want, I wouldn't tell you" Lowell said with every ounce of strength left.

"Would you be able to say the same for your dear wife?" He mocked.

Lowell looked at his wife's depleting condition, "I'm sorry Laelia" was all he could say as his wife's teary expression cut deep into him, he reached out pulling her close.

"Isn't this beautiful?, I'll let you enjoy your last moments, you're useless to me anyways, I'll find another way to know it's location" Rodriguez scoffed, "let's go" he said to his guards as they left through the huge hole caused by the explosion.

Lia could hear the their distinct sounds of marching and the galloping of some horses fading, they must be gone now.

"Father!, Mother!" She dropped by their side. "Please stay with me" she anxiously applied pressure to their wounds.

"It's too late" her father placed an arm on her shoulder, lightly patting her, "I'm proud of you, I'm sure you would carry out your task successfully" he coughed as his breathing became erratic.

"please conserve your energy" she looked towards her mother who had a weak smile, "please be safe for us" that was the last thing she heard from her mother as she closed her eyes as a peaceful smile crossed her features.

"You'll be in my memories forever" Lia said as she clutched on her necklace, "and I will get you the justice you deserve".

"Commander Blair!" the sudden knock on her door brought her back to reality. She immediately wore her necklace as she stood, heading towards the door.

"What happened this time?!" Blair opened the door stepping out, clearly not in the mood for any visitors.

"A letter was written to you Sir, but it's writer was not written on this letter but it clearly stated it should be given to you" the guard bowed, a little intimidated by Blair's glare. Blair was a little startled, this was the first time anyone would contact her, does anyone know of her true identity?.

She took the letter from the trembling fingers of the guard, "thank you, you may leave now, I will take it up from here".

Blair shut her door as she carefully examined the letter, the seal on the letter looked strange, she had not seen any of this kind. Breaking the seal she read through the cryptic message in the letter.

Sir Blair,

Meet me at the 12th chamber, I'm sure you would be interested in what I have to say, do not let anyone know of it's content and your whereabouts, I advice you keep this letter in a safe place

~M

"M?, Is this like some joke?" Blair looked at the letter once more in disbelief. She didn't have time for pranks but the person was specific and most importantly, the person was in the castle.

She grabbed a few things, locked up her window. Satisfied with the state of her room, stepping out, she locked her door, "Here I come".
