Chapter 12 - Shifting Ceremony (The Claim)

Alex seen through her wolf's eyes, watched as Ace crouched on the balls of his feet, the man was watching her with a calculating eye. What was she thinking, issuing a challenge to the Alpha Lord? This man was one of the very first, had led countless of men into battle, and here her tiny wolf was growling at the big bad Alpha. If it had been someone else, she might have found it humorous, but it being herself in this situation, it was downright terrifying. Challenges were not taken lightly, especially against an Alpha, Ace being the ruler of the Northern territory made her actions even more dangerous. Alex felt her wolf flex, she wiggled her belly against the ground, ears back and teeth bared. The beast was making a statement, "Prove to me that you are worthy of being my mate," which was absurd, should she not be content being the mate of the Alpha Lord, why make him establish his position? Out in the woods when she let her wolf loose, it was for a purpose, she had rarely shifted just for the joy of it. Never had she known that her wolf had such a brazen side, it was kind of refreshing in a way, that she was not just bowing down like a weakling. No, she was proving to herself and to the on lookers, that she could be a good match to the Alpha. It was not just her that should be grateful for this pairing, he should respect her also.

Ace raised to his feet slowly, his hands went to the buttons on his shirt, and he carefully started undoing each one. The look on his face was calm and collected, Alex wanted nothing more than to see some sort of emotion from him, her wolf could not agree more. She was circling around him now, the pads of her paws sinking into the soft grass, it felt deliciously like freedom. Ace let his shirt slide off his shoulders, it hit the ground in a pile of silken promise, the air grew thick around them. From the corner, the other pairs were watching in horrified amazement, struck silent by what was happening. Natalie bit her lip in worry but gave her a silent look of encouragement. Alex could feel her wolf's impatience, and before she realized what was happening, she was charging Ace, who had yet to shift. The world seemed to slow around them, her body was hovering in mid pounce, baring her fangs at her proposed mate. The flash of man to beast was almost instantaneous, one second, he was human and the next his wolf was standing in his place. The man was like lightening, never had she seen someone shift so quickly, his movements were fluid. Alex had landed in the spot where Ace's body was no longer, her head snapped to the side, and there he sat on his hind legs. The pose suggesting that she needed to try harder, he was playing with her now, taunting her with his ease at avoidance.

Alex's irritation and her wolves bled into one. Ace's wolf was huge, three times the size of hers, and he had a solid black coat. Surprise entered her mind, he was the opposite of her, yet they were the same. There colors clashed under the fading moon, Alex had given her frustration over to her wolf, and she had run with it. The result was her wolf colliding with Ace's, who had no moved to avoid this attack, instead he had gone head on with her. The growl of both wolves filled the sky, her wolf snapped at his, and in return he gave his own warning bark. Alex did not listen, her wolf was searching for something, and their emotions became one in the same, if he wanted her, he was going to have to prove it to the both of them. Alex turned her head and sank her teeth into Ace's shoulder, so close to the other wolf's neck, a clear threat by any wolfs standards. In retrospect that might have been too far, but she had wanted to push him, get some sort of reaction, any reaction…boy did she get one. Ace had her wolf pinned beneath his so fast it made her head crash into the ground, no longer was he playing, he meant business. Her wolf growled low in her throat, but it held less animosity than before, she was enjoying this entirely too much. Ace loomed over her, her back was to his front, yet she could sense his overpowering presence. The sheer magnitude of his physique made her shiver a little, a weird excitement coursed through her body, her wolf arched her back suggestively. The Alpha let loose a triumphant roar, before shocked coursed through Alex's system, Ace sank his own canines into the back of her neck, marking her before everyone. It was not a little snap, it was a dominating bite that almost snapped her spine in half, Alex let out a whimper of pain.

Alexis whole body trembled against Ace's, his teeth were buried deep within her flesh, when he finally pulled out, she felt the sick pop of skin from tooth. A warmth spread throughout her being, she felt the confines of her soul stretch, and a bright light flashed in her skull. Her wolf purred in a dizzy satisfaction, before Alex felt herself involuntarily shift back into her human form. She was so cold, her body could not stop shivering, trying to regain some of its warmth. There was no help from her wolf, usually the bitch kept her body regulated, but her presence was not felt. A blanket was draped around Alex's body, and cinnamon and spice enveloped her, she was crushed against a hard-bare chest. Glancing up from beneath long lashes, Alex seen Ace's face, it looked far graver than she had ever seen it before. "W-why s-so s-serious?" she asked in a slow stutter.

Ace looked down at her and shook his head, "Be quite, you lost a lot of blood."

It was weird, her body usually healed pretty fast, but she could feel no signs of it happening at this time. What was happening to her?
