Chapter 39 - The Thirteenth Night - Part 1 - Battle for Power

The advent of the foes of the wind had come when the twelfth moon sunk.

Renir faced the traumatizing glow that once killed him.

A pattern was beheld in his mind that made him more confident to face the undefeatable.

Weak as he was at first, he faced challenges that forge his will to compensate with his weakness. He Adapts, then learned how to endure and persevere until he earns the power to overcome these challenges.

This is the cycle he was facing. At first, it seemed impossible but after facing it head-on, failures may accompany him and death befell to his innocent soul, but it was not enough to stop him for chances were given to him to stand up once more to overcome the challenge!

Fear was inevitable and without it, humanity may escape from Renir's being.

Sometimes he is hot-blooded, rampaging through what obstacles may interfere with his path by letting the beast inside him take control.

Sometimes he is cold-blooded, cruel and merciless to himself just to remove what tortures him, using every last resort to escape the suffering.

However, most of the time, his is warm-blooded, caring and vigilant, using great effort to withstand whatever that may come!

And, Renir did not know for himself; he didn't earn his strong will after achieving his goal but rather, he achieved his goal because of his strong will!

'Come!', Renir eagerly thought as he saw the Water Sentinel making its move.

When the Water Sentinel glowed, it is using its concentrated energy from its inside.

Renir wouldn't let that happen since he knew his movements will be restricted when the Water Sentinel makes its move.

It was advantageous for Renir to know when the Water Sentinel will attack using its might so he could prepare.

Immediately, Renir dived to reach the glow below himself.

He needed to take the initiative to come closer since, from experience, all of the Water Sentinel's attacks were more dangerous the farther the target was:

Just its tackle, like the Giganslik, it needed to gain speed, its water beam faster from far away, or even the rising wall of water.

All of that was an example from his experience.

When up close, the only danger that could happen was to be eaten, however, that would actually favor Renir now since he will take that chance to increase his power, energy, and his water affinity at the same time.

So there was no need to fear when up close.

It might be scary seeing its hard-grayed head with sharp teeth as part of its rough face four times larger than Renir's entirety but he didn't have the luxury to fear what was not to be feared.

Whoosh-!* Renir dived up close but when he was just ten meters near the glowing of white Water Sentinel, his ears twitch, which was rare to occur at that point, and he followed his body's movement based on his senses.

Renir didn't notice the Water Sentinel's wide-opened mouth because of a spear of some sort formed by water that thrust towards him at a speed as fast as the Water Sentinel's full speed!

But with an abrupt bend of his waist and the thin diameter of this spear, Renir dodged it at the last moment.

'That was close!', Renir's sweat was unnoticeable underwater. He was almost caught off-guard there and may split his body into two based on the power he just saw!

Renir looked and saw the Water Sentinel's mouth wide open.

A thought hit him when he remembered the last two times the Water Sentinel was glowing with its outrageous attack.

Before he died the third time under the gigantic wall of water, Renir saw the Water Sentinel with its mouth wide open and the same when a water beam erupted from its mouth.

It didn't occur to Renir the thought because it was logical to open one's mouth when the attack itself came from it.

So the third time was the catalyst that made him realized. The Water Sentinel opens its mouth when using the concentrated energy from within.

Renir thought the only explanation he can come up with, 'It must be drawing energy from its inside.'

So he used this thought to plan and enter the Water Sentinel's mouth again.

But he didn't wait for the chance to reveal itself because it was already there.

Renir just has to be cautious since an opened mouth means the danger was multiplied.

After confronting the Water Sentinel for the third time, Renir noticed that its glow never dimmed once.

'So it finally accepted me as dangerous?', Renir expressed a scared smile as he dodged left and right from the water spears that formed out of nowhere, anytime and anywhere.

At first, it was just one at a time but as he got closer to the open mouth as big as the mouth of a volcano, it multiplied.

But Renir didn't stop getting near to the Water Sentinel even though the danger was obvious ahead, and instead, he optimistically thought, 'So its generous enough to let me get used to it bit by bit?'

How many times does Renir evade something that was faster than he was?

His body was trained to be flexible and sensitive to this that he could somehow predict where it would hit him and how he will dodge.

But these water spears still came out of nowhere. Renir only has less than a second to react to it and his mind was already heating because of his active evasion. So his execution was not perfect and he received wounds that made clouded blood of trail to his movement.

From an outside view, Renir looked as if he was dancing. His uninterrupted movement while foggy red followed him as multiple life-ending spears were missing him.

Renir recalled this elegance in his movement. This is when he was filled with confidence and joy of finding a hopeful light in the tragic path.

Even with blood escaping his skin, he had a huge smile on his face.

He was only three meters away from the Water Sentinel's mouth. However, the water spears were now appearing from all directions, enclosing him. How could he escape when not even a snake could slither out of?

Two meters away and the spears reached him. Renir had no escape but he didn't mind, he was inured to sacrifice a part of his body.

It was a sad thing to be inured to, but Renir had no choice left.

One meter...

His wrist was blown away by the spear that passed through it. He knew its power but it was terrifying to experience it firsthand!

Grieving bubbles came out of his mouth that should be reserved in his lungs. He wanted to shout but couldn't.

However, he didn't need to since he was already inside the Water Sentinel's mouth, his goal.

The water washed away exactly as he entered the huge mouth and got his chance to shout the pain he was experiencing.

"AHHH!!", he screamed louder than he had to since his left foot was caught when the mouth abruptly closed.

Even if it pained him so much, Renir crawled and felt a pain worse than his lost hand and foot.

It was as if it was dissolving his skin. It was deep blue.

Renir knew what it was!

Immediately, he wriggled his body and jumped into the pool of torture where he drank unstoppably.

He felt like nails were coursing through his throat then air filling inside his whole being when the energy was being absorbed into his own.

It was too much!

But because he had a mutilated foot and hand, that overwhelming energy that will make him explode went to recover his injuries.

The concentrated energy was dissolving his skin but after time and time of drinking it, somehow, he was being used to it...

The pain was lessening and the feeling of exploding was slowly disappearing.

The wounds he was continuously gaining was healing. Blood finally stopped escaping from his skin and a new feeling of power was integrated into him.

Renir felt as if that energy was his own in the first place...

The Water Sentinel finally raged and slithered through the water as if it was panicking, at the same time, the concentrated energy within it was reacting and pulling Renir out!

Before, he was powerless when this happened the first time, but now, Renir resisted the pulling and pushing force out of the stomach.

'I'm going to drain you!', Renir fearlessly exclaimed in his thought.

While he resisted, he was feeding himself the energy itself that was pushing him out of the stomach.

Renir had yet to drink ten percent of the concentrated energy inside, no, maybe only a total of two percent did he absorbed this whole time!

The inside of the Water Sentinel's gigantic body was its stomach and it was filled with concentrated energy.

How much difference do Renir's mouth and the Water Sentinel's body have? Renir couldn't hope to compare!

Instead of fear, joy hit Renir. He only drank a few but he was already being accustomed to this new power!

The Water Sentinel with its sufficient intelligence knew it had to be desperate. It glowed even brighter as the pulling force got stronger.

Renir felt a bull suddenly pulled him away!

But Renir, with his indomitable nerves and great resolve, drank as if he was breathing water.

The strength that was overpowering, making him more than alive, and hyper-active were used against the pull!

Renir didn't have the chance to look but his water affinity was jumping at high levels.

The flood was disturbed for their new master was appearing...
