Ephraim had thought about it on their way into Patriargë. Shey Ramgold told him about the story of Patriargë—how it had used its children as a capital. He had thought about how ridiculous it was, but then again, many things happened on the history of humankind that was deemed crazier. Ephraim considered the task to be utterly important.

Those were Yael's last words—what his and Sam's savior's goal. Ephraim was driven and had a strong sense of justice; however, he was still a person who was sent to a foreign place like a housecat dumped into the wild. He managed to survive, find Samuel, and he was even able to arrive in Patriargë, his original destination.
