Chapter 3 - chapter 3. Painful Memories and Lost Ones (Part 2)

As he turned around he saw his older sister face down, his younger sister instantly picked up their younger brother and carried him while running. Daemos was a few feet ahead as the battle was getting quieter in the distance, he turned to look back at the senseless violence of these kerlot savages. As they ran putting distance between them and the Kerlots. Laera looked down at their younger brother in her hands comforting him by saying. "Daelos everything will be fine." Soon they got to a spot where they thought they would be safe from the kerlots. Then they sat down and rested. Daemos went and made a makeshift spear from a small sapling nearby. Then he went and hunted for some small game to feed is siblings. He saw the tracks of some rabbits that he followed in search of the rabbits that left the fresh tracks. He came to a stop in a bushy area and he started to gathered sticks nearby and created a makeshift trap for them. He left the area for a bit to venture further into the woods. When he heard the sound of soft moving water, so he went to investigate. There was a creek near by so Daemos decided to gather a bit of fish from it with his spear. It took him a few tries as he wasn't proficient in it. At this point in time was when he noticed, that when he got frustrated he would focus more as everything else seemed to slow down around him. Even the fish seemed to slow down enough for him to spear them. He started to feel like this wasn't normal for him to be able to do. As he hunted and fished for a while he gathered enough food he thought. The air started to grow brisk and feel like the cold draft of night was coming. He had to get his siblings to shelter so they can stay warm, as well as hiding the flames of a campfire for cooking to keep the enemy from finding them. He headed back to where his siblings were handed his sister the food and picked up his little brother. He told his sister "We need to find a better place to stay for the night one that is more hidden." He lead them further into the woods while carrying his little brother on his back. They came to a clearing with a large tree in the center all the other trees seemed to keep their distance eerily enough. The tree in the center looked like it was big enough to hide them all in and had an opening in the middle making the tree look hollow inside. Daemos lead his siblings inside the tree. they entered and started to settle into the tree. it seemed like a good enough place to make camp for the night. Daemos started to gather fallen branches and other dry material to make a fire at the center of the hollow tree. There was enough room for large family of six to eight people to hide in the tree and still have a fire in the middle for warmth. As the fire burned and the oldest siblings ate in silence, they could hear the younger brother sobbing as he ate. The younger sister started to have tears stream down her face as she stared at Daemos who seemed to not have any emotions. Laera looked at Daemos and asked "Brother do you not feel nothing after everything? We lost mother and sister, and yet you do not weep or anything. How can you not feel anything?" Daemos looks at her and then his younger brother for a moment. Then he looks back at his sister his eyes filling with burning intent as he spoke slowly and steadily "I only have one thought and nothing more. To mourn the passing of life is normal for most but when I hunt do I mourn the prey? no! when I took the life of another did I feel anything? No! I felt nothing. I hate the people who did this and made me lose my family but I do not feel loss as you and little brother do. I hate myself that I am this way but this is the way I am. Can I change the way I am? I do not know, but hate is what I feel not sadness. Those who caused us to lose our family must suffer till the end of their family lines." as he finished talking his sister stared deeply at him and replied in a sad tone. "Brother if you can not feel sadness then I will feel it for you and carry the pain for you. Me and little brother will bear the pain of the losses for you and hope that one day you will be able to feel something more one day." While the older siblings were talking the younger brother was crying while calling for his mother and oldest sister as well as his father. Laera went and comforted him the best she could. "Don't cry little Daelos they are in the arms of gods and goddesses of forests and skies. They will be remembered as long as we remember them." she told her little brother who seemed to cry himself to sleep. Daemos was agitated and said he would stay up and watch over them for the night. As he watched over them his anger and hate slowly started to leave him. A feeling of weakness and not being strong enough to protect his family started to grow in him causing him to hate himself more. The next morning came and Daemos told his sister that it was best to not wonder too far and drew a map in the dirt for her of where the creek was. "This is where we are." Points at the tree on the map in a circle. "This is the creek." Points at a squiggly line on the ground. It is about 20 mins walk from here there is wildlife a plenty here but things seem to keep from coming near this spot like it is sacred or something. I want to get some rest in since I been up all night watching over you two. Wake me in about four hours and then I will hunt us some food." He said in a sleepy tone. As he started to yawn and then instantly falls a sleep.
