Chapter 4 - The Library

"You're dismissed. Leave" She said. Sam's eyes widened and he nodded. He stood, gave a slight bow, and rushed from the room. How could he have ignored her orders like that! He needed to pay more attention. Jogging he went farther down the path past the faculty building to the boy's dorms. He ran down the halls past other people and skidded to a stop in front of his door. Swinging it open he was met with a dim room. No one was back, thank Hestius.

Sam rushed to his bed and reached underneath. He pulled out a big black cloak and threw it onto the bed.

Checking the clock he smiled slightly. It was six thirty-five so he still had around two hours before he had to go meet Amelia. He was sure she would start today just to yell at him tomorrow about not showing up. It was an old tactic the Headmaster had used on him when he was younger. He set out his extra sports clothes on top of the cloak and changed out of his soaked uniform and into a fresh one. He dropped his wet clothes in his hamper and threw his blanket over his cloak and clothes before grabbing his satchel and walking back out of his dorm. He was so ready to just sit in the library and read. The day had been terrible, even by his standards.

He closed the door and jogged out of the building.

If he could get to the library fast enough he wouldn't run into any trouble. Everyone should be in the dining hall anyways. He would even take a shortcut just in case. He turned and ran across the field towards the woods. As he ran he saw flashes of people. Something he had grown used to since he could ignore them even if he ran through them.

The main building grew bigger and he felt his spirits lighten. Finally, he could just relax and hang out with Izzy! He couldn't wait to vent to her about the shit Belle had put him through or the fact that his arch-enemy had to save him. He felt a dull pain in his eyes and he realized that he still hasn't had his powers released so he would have to wait until dark in order to see Izzy. That wasn't too bad since sunset was supposed to be around seven or eight.

With renewed energy, Sam began down the path towards the main building. The library was by far one of his favorite places to be. It was huge. It used three out of the five stories in the main building and connected to multiple classrooms on each floor. It was also full of books from all over the world. It was honestly the closest thing Sam had to home and even the people who lived there were nice.

As Sam daydreamed about all the new things he could be a part of a small group of people began to surround him. He was staring at his feet so he didn't notice until one of them was right in front of him. Stumbling backward he opened his mouth to apologize only to have his arms grabbed by the other two people behind him. He cried out in surprise as he took in his situation. A fae blood was grappling his left arm, his soft green skin became hard as steel as he flexed, and a surprisingly buff human held his right arm, she held firm and though Sam was confident in his agility and constitution he definitely had what qualified as noodle arms. In front of him stood the same muddy brown-eyed boy that had attacked him this morning. The boy grinned and stood over Sam, basking in his superiority.

"Look," Sam said, "as much as I love stroking your ego, I have places to be."

The boy laughed and pulled back his arm to punch Sam only to have his arm stopped. Sam blinked and growled at Jacob who stood slightly behind the boy. He had his arm gripped tightly enough to make the boy wince, though Jacob didn't seem to care. Sam was getting really sick of being saved by this man. However, an escape is an escape and as soon as the two goonies loosened their grip he booked it. He felt his bag jostle as he slipped through the group.

He heard their cries of surprise but the only one that made him glance back was Jacob's soft protest. He blinked and stumbled before continuing towards the school building. As he slammed the large double doors behind him he felt something in his chest twinge.

Jacob had sounded so desperate and so hurt. Another twinge made Sam wince. He hated how much control Jacob had over him. He wished he could take out the damned chip that gave him all of these painful sensations.

Now in a much worse mood, he made his way to the library's side entrance and went in. The familiar smell of old paper and dust filled his nose and he felt his muscles relax. Even with everything that was happening the library always made him feel safe. It was a haven of knowledge, it knew his backstory but didn't judge him because it also knew his decisions and feelings towards his situation. The library welcomed him no matter what and he loved it for that.
