Chapter 5 - Disoriented

... I didn't recognize it before, Patricia, your daughter is a jewel." Alicia beamed, pulling my mom closer to herself.

A blush made its way to my cheeks immediately Mrs Anderson said that.

Looking over at Adams, he had a weird grin on his face, internally proud of his mother's comment.

°Jerk° I rolled my eyes.

"Thanks a lot Alicia, I could say the same of your handsome son." Offered my mom.

"Uh!" I scoffed at the remark.

"We would see you around sometime, your place?" Mrs Anderson held my mom's hands giving her a pleading look.

°No! No! No!° I was intently battling with myself not to say out loud what I had in mind.

°You could go visit them alone I might add° I hoped she could read the signs on my facial expression at the least.

As always this was shattered with a 'That will be lovely!' From my mom.

°Great! Just great! We get to see the moron in our home anytime soon°

~~~~~~~~~~
"See you soon!" My mom waved as we prepared to leave.
°not!° I chipped in.
~~~~~~~~~~

"Home at last!" I scurried upstairs to my room, dropping face down on my bed, boy was I tired!

Stretching out my hand to my bedside table, I pulled down my tablet to the my bed, my flower patterned home screen popping up.

"5:10pm." I squinted my eyes to the light.

°Wow were we there for nearly two hours? Why does it feel like I'm missing something?° I shook my head thinking of different possibilities.

°Hmm, what was it?" I sat cross-legged on my bed.

"Oh no! Homework!" sudden realization dawned on me.

"Google to the rescue." I whooped.

~~~~~~~~~~
The sound footsteps approaching my room, made me dash towards my switch, as if hit by lightning, I quickly turned it off, jumped back in bed, turned my back to the door, snuggling myself cozily in the warmth of my duvet, pretending be asleep as best as I could, throwing a few snores here and there, heaving a little.
*Knock* *Knock*
Of course to make true with my pretence, I had to stay perfectly still.
*Click*
The sound followed signalling my door had been opened, "Sweetie dear, you didn't have your supper today." she whispered.
"Oh!" I presumed she saw my supposed sleeping posture and gave a quick and silent whisper of "Goodnight my little girl." Before closing the door.
°Goodnight° I replied intently.
~~~~~~~~~~

"Ring!! Ring!! Ring!! Ring!!!" My goddamned alarm rang on in what seemed like forever or was it the hunger that woke me up?

°Definitely my stomach and not the alarm° the growling of my stomach a testimony to my claim, which had became more angry at me at the passing minute.

°Ugh!! I need some food!!° I made a mental note.

I gradually stood up hitting the pain in the ear alarm clock snooze.

"7:15am?" I looked over at the alarm clock.

°Hmm doesn't that mean I'm late?° My sleepy head still couldn't process what I saw.

Doing a double take, my eyes widened in shock, looking again at the time, "whaaat!!! I have only 45mins until school starts? Oh no!! Oh no!!! I'm going to be late."

Jumping out of bed hurrying to the sink in my bathroom, I brushed my teeth, had my bathe and quickly did my hair and uniform, running down the stairs.

"Ow! Damnit!" I cursed as I missed my footing on the stairs, hitting my knee.

°Why did my day have to begin like this?° I looked at the slight swell on my knee.

"Katie?!" My mom touched her wrists, her brows raised in a question.

"I know, it's all the alarm's fault." I pushed the blame, raising my hands up in defense.

"Uhuh..." She shook her head to my antics.

"What's wrong with your knee?" She rushed over, examining the swelling.

"No thanks to the stairs, but it's nothing, mom, I'll be fine." I assured.

My mom was just as anxious as I was, my second day in school, and I'm already almost late.

"Here," She forced a dish in my hand. "Eat." She ordered.

"But that would make me more late than I already am." I hopped anxiously.

"Eat!" She cut a part of the toast, stuffing it into my mouth.

"Mmm." I relished in the taste of my mom's toast. "It's wonderful!" I cheered with my mouth full.

"Take some to school, I've packed some for you." She handed a packet.

"Thanks Mom!" I took the packet along with me before kissing my mom goodbye.

"Make me proud!" She waved.

"Sure I will!" I waved, jumping backwards, turning forward I was met with the door.

"Oof!" I rubbed my nose to the pain.

"Stupid door!" I hissed.

*Are you alright dear?" My mom pulled her hands down squinting to my pain.

"I'm fine!" I opened the door with aggression. "See you soon!" I hurried down the stepst o meet the chauffeur.

"David, drive carefully!" My mom yelled to the chauffeur.

"My honor Mrs Brooks." He tipped his cap.

"Hit the accelerator!" I drummed on the chauffeur's headrest.

~~~~~~~~~~
"Have a nice day Miss." David smiled before driving off.
Looking back, I dashed into the school hall, I arrivwd at the school...
