"What are you thinking?!", shouted Lieutenant Jackson. "Those soldiers had no idea that they were here, and I would've liked to keep it that way! Less stress means higher morale!"
Jackson was screaming. His fuse burned and he blew up. But he quickly calmed down. He continued, clearing his throat, "It's irrelevant. We just have to kill those Oyashimans before they kill us! Get me the Gold Squad. That's an order, Private First Class Licinius!"
Magnus did not know what just happened, but he ran to the Gold Squad tents. They were the elite squad of the company, each 6 members being a specialist in their respective fields.
Magnus burst into their ten-man tent which was on the other side of the camp from his and shouted, "Gold Squad, get up! The company commander wants to talk to you ASAP! Follow me!"
Jackson's energy had affected Magnus', so he was shouting and running about, which confused Magnus. He had no idea why he was running and shouting, but he stuck with it. The Gold Squad tailing him, Magnus ran to the company commander's office. He entered without knocking and stood at attention.
He said, "The Gold Squad, company commander, sir!", and saluted the company commander. The six ran into the tent, one after another. They all saluted the company commander. The company commander rose and saluted them, saying, "At ease!", and sat back down.
He continued by saying, "We have a time sensetive mission. We are moving out, let's see, the time is 21:00, so we move out in 7 hours, at 04:00. There is an Oyashiman camp somewhere in this jungle, and we have to find it before they kill us. They already know where we are, so we need to take such measures as mobilizing you seven. Now go rest and be up at 01:30. Dismissed!"
Magnus stood as the six men left. Lieutenant Jackson stood, reading a file that been put on his desk, deeply engrossed. On the folder was the word, "CLASSIFIED", in red ink. Jackson did not see that Magnus had left as he started reading aloud.
"Company Commander Jackson, we are informing you that the plans to invade the island directly to your direct west has been put on secondary importance. The developement of a weapon that can destroy a city has been completed, and hopefully it will put an end to this wretched war within the week, as we have plans to use them on our adversary, the Empire of Oyashima, two days and five days from today. However, we cannot send you any transport ships until the decided date of the invasion, so you will have to hold tight until then."
When he finished reading all of the contents of the classified message, he noticed that Magnus was still standing there. Jackson couldn't believe his eyes.
"What are you still doing here? What are you doing? You didn't hear anything, did you? Soldier, you heard nothing!", the lieutenant spouted, trying to fix his errors. He made the one of the worst blunders an officer could make: revealing sensetive information.
Any leak of classified info would lead to more and more leaks of that info, which could lead to a leak to the enemy. This ran through the mind of the company commander, but then he realized, the bombings would take place before Private First Class Licinius would have contact with the outside world.
Lieutenant Jackson decided that he not only should not kill him, but also cannot kill him, as he was the public's inspiration. That was why he was going with Magnus in the first place!
"Private First Class Licinius, do not speak of this to anyone until after we leave this island. Now go get some rest, you only have...", Jackson checked his watch, "... Six hours and fourty-five minutes ahead of you right now. You need your rest to shoot straight, so go to sleep."
Magnus understood the lieutenant. He thanked Jackson and left, headed for his tent. The sun was starting to set, revealing how dark the jungle really was. After just about seven hours of short sleep, he would have to go venture into the dark unknown.
As Magnus got into his tent and got in his cot, he thought about how low their chances of success were. They would not only have to survive the darkness of the jungle, but also defeat a whole camp of Oyashimans and survive. Thomas' snoring kept Magnus awake, spurring his thought to elaborate on this subject.
And what if they have two companies on the island? They would be outnumbered, 2:1. They were also at the disadvantage of not knowing where their enemy is whilst their enemy knows where they are because of himself.
Magnus' thought moved from their odds to beating himself up. If only he had been able to stab that scout. If they captured him, they would be sitting in a much better position.
"Stop, Magnus, what has been done cannot be helped now, just like how one cannot help the voring of a prey by the predator. It's nature, and humans and Administrators both mess up. Only the Creator is perfect.", reassured Amicus, talking to Magnus in his mind.
Magnus followed Amicus' advice and stopped worrying. Naturally, his mind moved around, still being held in the state of consciousness by Thomas' absurdly loud snoring which kept even the people sleeping next to them in other tents awake.
What was up with his step-father? Why would someone who has special bullets that inhibit Admin powers, which helped him get to his destination, warn him about his step-father?
Magnus and he shared a relatively good relationship. Nothing was out of the ordinary from his childhood, and if his mother approved of him, he should be fine. When Magnus was in his teens, the often wrestled, but his step-father would pin Magnus, leaving him only to squirm like a helpless worm.
As Magnus reminisced in his mental space of his childhood, which he was still getting used to, as the Admin way of remembering is much more involved than a human's, he drifted off into slumber, now only able to get 6 hours and 15 minutes of sleep.
