Chapter 11 - It's Been A Long Time, Old Friend(3)

After Zain helped Mingxi out of the car he let go and took a step back.

Once Manager Lau instructed the footmen he went to Evelyn.

"Mrs. Cheng, let me get you checked in," he used his arm directing toward the door. He grabbed the door and ushered the trio into the hotel.

"Thank you," Evelyn said stepping inside. The foyer was very elegantly designed. The marble floors and red carpets complimented each other well.

Manager Lau quickly followed her and went to the reception desk to check her in. After he grabbed the keycard he quickly lead her to the elevator. The two doors opened to let the in.

"Suite 1010," Manager Lau said to the footmen. The bellhops got into one elevator with the bags that were on a cart and the rest of them got into the other.

On the way to the room, Manager Lau kept trying to get on Zain and Evelyn's good side. He knew they were both influential people and that he couldn't afford to piss off.

Normally Zain hated people kissing up to him. But he chose not to say anything this time. He rode on the elevator in silence beside Evelyn. Mingxi held her hands clasped in front of her on the other side of Evelyn.

When they arrived Manager Lau stepped off first going to the door of her suite. Using the key card he opened the door. The elevator dinged and out stepped the bellhops with her bags.

He swept an arm signaling the trio to enter first. The penthouse suite was grand. It was two stories. The first floor had a kitchen, a simple bathroom, and living room area. The place was beautifully furnished with top of the line furniture.

Evelyn put her briefcase and her purse down on the love seat. The room was mostly designed in cherry wood, beige, and white colors. It wasn't necessarily to her taste but it would do.

"Here you go," Manager Lau held out his hand to hand Evelyn the key card. She took it from him and put it into her front pocket. The footmen came in with the bags and put it off the side in the living room area.

"Is there anything else?" Manager Lau asked her.

"Prepare lunch and have it brought up," Zain said before Evelyn could object. She realized that it was about 1:00 in the afternoon and figured he must be hungry.

"Okay, right away." Master Lau backed out of the room leaving only Evelyn, Zain, and Mingxi in the room.

Zain went to the refrigerator in the kitchen and came back with three juices. He handed them out and the girls thanked him.

Mingxi's phone chimed and she checked her phone.

"Driver Chung said he will be available and asked when you would like him to be here." Mingxi said glancing up from her phone to look at her boss. Evelyn took a gulp of the juice before answering.

"6:00 tonight," Evelyn answered. She twisted the cap back onto the bottle and set it down on the counter.

"Mingxi, I don't think I have anything else for you today. Report back here tomorrow at 11:00 in the morning." Evelyn said. Realizing how dismissive she sounded she added "Thank you for today."

Mingxi bowed.

"Of course, I'll tell Driver Chung to call you when he's here." Mingxi said. She left the room. When she did there was only Zain and Evelyn left in the room. He pulled out a chair by the kitchen for her and she took the seat.

"Thank you," Evelyn said as she sat down. He took the seat next to her and sighed resting his chin on his fist.

"Evelyn," he said gently. Her eyes teared up and they instantly started to fall.

"Evelyn!" He said again getting up. He pulled her against him. She took deep breaths sobbing into his shirt. He held her, one arm around her shoulders and one hand patting her head gently.

"How could he?" She said between breaths. He kept holding her against him.

"He's an idiot," Zain said. She pulled back to look at him. His hands went to her shoulders. Her eyes were red and a little swollen from crying.

"What does that say about me?" Evelyn said quietly.

"It says you're amazing for loving such an unworthy man," he said without hesitation. Evelyn tried to blink back the tears unsuccessfully.

"I'm sorry, Evelyn. You deserved better." He said. Evelyn took some shallow breaths to stop the tears. When the tears stopped she began to hiccup.

"Why has your brother been ignoring me?" Evelyn asked, suddenly pulling back.

"Uh," Zain said scratching the back of his head. He blew a breath out.

"You should ask him," he said.

"How can I? He ignores me," Evelyn said flatly her lips pulling into a thin line.

"I don't think he's going to ignore you anymore," he murmured.

"How can you be so sure." Evelyn asked.

"Just trust me," he implored. Evelyn fumed wanting to challenge him. Not seeing a choice she jerked her head nodding.

He smiled. Just then there was a knock on the door and he went to get the door.

Manager Lau was at the door with a tray of food. Not wanting him to see her face, Evelyn went into the bathroom.

Once there she splashed some cold water on her face and dried it. After checking to make sure she looked okay, she went back out. When she did, she noticed that Manager Lau had left.

She went back to the kitchen island and took a seat. He opened the lids of the covers and handed her a pair of chopsticks. He then picked up his own pair of chopsticks and began eating. He must have been hungry because he practically wolfed the food down.

When they finished he gathered the stuff up and called for the tray to be taken. Not long after there was a knock at the door. It was almost as if there was a maid stationed outside the door.

Not long afterward he walked to the door to take his leave as well.

"I'll be back okay?" Zain said to her. She nodded.

She opened and closed the door behind him. Once she did, his face darkened considerably. He could count on the palm of his hand the number of times he has ever seen Evelyn cry. Shawn Cheng was going to be a very dead man.
