Chapter 1 - prologue: the village between the mountains

The aged village lingered between two towering green mountains that peeked its snowy roof up in the clouds, leaving a cold shade on the small village underneath. The marble roof of the houses lined up perfectly like a puzzle. And the sandstone of the body of the houses shining with the light beautifully.

Farther away in the sunny distance lived a cramped but snug meager cabin up a short hill, the roof made out of straw to push back the heat when the fireplace is lit making a warm environment in the summer, it was stacked with strong pine logs. Red wildflowers danced with the winds at the doorstep, next to a dusty old rug that had been knitted boldly welcome to the farmer family.

In the winter, snow would swallow the small cabin whole, but i still liked it.

An annoying rooster woke me up from my bed, rubbing my closed eyes, I felt like someone had attached heavy chains on my body.

"Why won't they eat that bird," it will cluck almost all morning waking everyone in the village. I stepped off the bed like a slug.

The floor was covered with old clothing that i rarely wore, from dirty tunics to smelly socks and coats, I stepped off my bed as I looked in the mirror at the wall watching the boy staring back at me, my hair was dark brown and messy some trying to cover my face, my charcoal black eyes glaring at the mirror, The sun seemed to hate me because i was pale as parchment you don't want to see me in the winter.

"You are small a boy for your age," my dad would say to me.

I had planned to live this village today to become a new person. I looked out the window to see the bright blocky sun, as it motivated me to move faster. I wore my white tunic and brown pants brown leather boots supporting my small feet. My father kept a long sword under the bed, he would tell me when I was young that he placed a curse on it.

" touch it you will turn into a fat toad," I knew he was lying, i take out the sword under the bed by stretching my hands trying to get a hold of it.

shing! I pull out the sword, its brightness almost blinding me, i stroke the sharp thing, feeling the cold steel, I quickly put it back to its sheath and to my back, its weight pulling me down.

the morning wind swayed with the wildflowers outside my cabin. Children played ball outside so early as they chased each other.

"Have you heard of the missing coal miners out south have you," a woman murmured to her friend, acting I was looking the other way.

"Missing coal miners," I have heard of that before I thought. I am heading to the cave to check it out, maybe there is some kind of monster living there, if I defeat it, I would become the most popular teenager in the village, I had to go.

I went out south and at a distance, I could see a small mining site.

There was a sign reading not to get in the cave or they will get arrested, I immediately went under the fence after reading that, who cares I am already one of the best with a sword at battle-school anyways.

the cave was a black hole I felt like I was being sucked in, worse it was also as dark as the winter night sky. the hair on my neck rose, it was as quiet as a graveyard. before I could know it a green figure stood before me a few feet taller than me. hissing loudly.

"aw man,"
