Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Life in California is the best. Living in Los Angeles is better... except for me. My name is Drew and I'm the most unfortunate person in the world. It's either because of how I look, or maybe because of a misunderstanding that happened in the past. I never knew I could find real love in this world until one day, back when I was in 10th grade.

I was hanging out with my friend Jake at lunch playing some games. But then, he brought up homecoming; which is around a month away from now.

"Yo, are you going to the homecoming dance? I can hook you up with someone," he said.

"Nah, I don't wanna waste your friends' time with someone like me." I said.

"But I think she might be a match for you," he pestered.

I then thought for a moment and realized this could be my time to ask my crush on a date. She was one of the most beautiful girls in my grade, and her name was Emily.

"You know what I said. I'm going, but I'm not taking your friend" I said.

"Cool, so are you going to go with someone?" he asked.

"Yeah, but I can't tell you who it is until she says yes." I said. "So are you taking your girlfriend?" I continued.

"Of course I'm taking her. Who else?" he snapped back.

So after school, I went to look for Emily. She was walking with her friends to the buses. I then decided to call out to her. I soon got a feeling that another misunderstanding was going to happen. People always misunderstand everything I do or have done. An example of this was the time back in 4th grade I snuck some chocolate into the bathroom, and came back to class chocolate on my face and toilet paper stuck on my shoe (they thought I had eaten poop). Or the time back in 6th grade leaving a beach field trip. A girl in front of me had sand on her, and I tried to help dust it off of her. Even though I had her consent, everyone else thought I was sexually harassing her, and she lied to them, getting me in trouble for a simple misunderstanding.

But, back to the current situation I have at hand. As I approached her feeling all worn out, she stopped to talk.

"Yo," I said trying to catch my breath.

"What's up Drew," she said.

"Can I talk to you for a minute?" I said.

"Sure,"she responded back. Her friend whispered something in her ear, which was prompted by giggling and a quick leave.

"Are you taking anyone to the homecoming dance next month?" I asked curiously.

"No, but are you ok? Do you need water?" she concerningly replied.

"I'm ok, so can I take you?" I said with exhaust.

"Take me where?" she asked.

"Homecoming," I said nervously.

"Sure," she smiled.

"Ok bye," I replied cheerfully before leaving.

Later I talked to Jake about what happened and he was just as surprised as his girlfriend; who was sitting on his lap.

"Bro, I think you asked the wrong girl. You're going to get hurt." he retorted.

"How would you know that when we have a lot in common? She's like... the perfect match for me!" I gestured.

"You know what, you're right. I don't know. That's why I'm gonna help you," he smirked.

"Help me, when I think I got it?" I replied back.

" Yeah, I don't think you do. I mean, look at you, you're weak and you look like a creep. How do you expect to make her fall in love with you?" he asked.

"Ok... so what's the plan?" I said.
