Chapter 1 - Introduction

The experiment garnered results sufficient enough to continue to send funds. Though the results weren't the ones expected they were ones that were liked. The testing had originally ended in complete disaster but the use of child subjects changed the matter. The recent growth of stammers had led to increases in test samples, and especially children. They would be plucked out by night and tested over and over again. Accidents were commonplace and then dull husks of children were left with no will to live. The children would be free to roam across the white square area, trapped by the ones who should've protected them. They laid inside incubators with plain faces, no reactions. They stayed there until they died or until accidents happened.

The experiments that would later be known as the "Town House massacres", were tested privately unknown to the public. But as to how they were exposed, well, "Comme la mort rôde, la vie aussi".

Red lights and boisterous noises presented themselves into their ear. The chaotic running of testing officers was something they found odd. The main thing they remembered about them was the times when they would poke or stab the others and the red fluids that rushed out of them.

They sat upright on their bed and pondered what was going on. Slipping on their white gloves they jumped forward. Groggily walking to the iron reinforced door, they peered through the small glass opening in the door. They saw flashing lights, running of the whites, and a few bodies. After taking a good look they stopped, turning around back to the bed they had come from. They were making themselves comfortable when they heard a loud noise as if something had jerked forward. They turned around to inspect when they found the door open. They scrambled out of bed and ran to the door. They slowly peered their small head into the walkway and looked around. They found the same had happened to the others.

The door had opened, something that they saw the others took advantage of. The others ran out quickly and followed the way the whites had gone. The others ran in droves sometimes running over each other. They did not dare to go out immediately and collected a few things. They took a small bag one of the whites had given her to take the messages. They picked a few things, a pencil, a small notebook, a name tag, and a white sweater.

Putting the small backpack on their back they walked on the cold floor. They walked the opposite way, crashing into the others a few times. Walking forward they ran into a body, the body was covered in clothing and accessories. The thing that caught their attention was the shoes they had on. Shoes, a luxury only some had and they liked it. Bending forward, they twisted the shoes hoping that would get them off but it stayed together. They sat now, grabbing the shoes, and taking off the strap. They pulled the shoes and put them on, finding a splat of blood they wiped it off and gazed at the body distastefully.

They continued on their way and eventually reached their destination with much difficulty. Looking at the two iron doors completely opened, a smile formed on their face. They walked near the long lines where they stood to get supplement. They scanned the room that would usually be filled to the brim with others. Finding nothing they made their way to the main serving grounds. Before the situation transpired, they were eagerly awaiting supper and had not eaten anything previously. The barrels, pans, and containers, were filled with meals they'd kill for. The only thing dividing them from the meal had been a small flat-topped fixed to a metal railing. Jumping over was completed with a scare, jumping over they leaped headfirst and rolled onto a serving platform, where they crashed into something.

Crashing into a cabinet a resounding sound presented itself. Slowly standing up, they rubbed their hands against their hips which took most of the impact. Standing up they peered over the food and jumped in joy. Getting on of the nearby spoons they sampled each good. They'd normally distribute the food based on data so, to be able to sample all of it was extraordinary. The taste was something they had loved, the only motivator. Fetching a dish, they placed their most welcomed meal on them and found an easier point of exit. Walking through the door, they could've earlier, found a table and sat down. The alarm had started to lose its luster when a barrage of whites ran near the entry of the door, and the noise rang with its urgency once more.

In that second they jumped over and positioned themselves in a way that would hide them from the incoming whites. But much to their relief they didn't spare a look and ran with a sense of urgency. Noticing they looked at themselves and thought about better uses of their time. They jolted up-right and ran to the nearest deposit bin. Dumping their meal reluctantly, they grabbed their bag and sneaked to the entrance. Checking both ways they braced themselves for future inconveniences.

"I repeat code red, code red, I repeat code re--," that was the end of the announcement when a small scream resounded.

The sense of urgency in their voice and of the whites behavior had just alerted them of their position. This was the only time something like this had happened and they would rarely come out without escorts. Now with newfound awareness, they turned and ran left. They found the new shoes a great help in the running. They continued to run and saw almost the exact same areas to the point of even question, but the bodies littered around helped encourage them. They soon felt a strain on their legs and slowed a bit. They eventually found a large door in the seemingly never-ending pathway.

The door seemed to be stronger than the ones that kept them captive. The door had a small area of customization. Walking to the door they examined it for any way of entry and exit. Finding a small area for sliding they thought about anything they could use but came up empty. Examining the area, they retraced their memories, then they found it. Running swiftly they went to the body of a nearby white and ripped off the card they sought. They ran back and tried numerous unsuccessful attempts to open the door when they realized their mistake and flipped over the card and tried. With that, the door slowly opened and the full moon greeted their eyes for the first time.
