Chapter 3 - That room

I scarfed down the fluffs until memories from that room flooded back. My eyes were spinning, my heart was sinking, and the meal I savored began to rise out from me. The air in the room suddenly froze me back into the dark bloody storage place. Wings, tails, fangs, bones, arms, legs... Like uncompleted mannequins, they were displayed neatly in thick glassed cases and cylinders. What in the world was that room. What was the purpose of it... Did those celestials send me there knowing that those THINGS were in there?

My lungs struggled to gasp for air as I fell to the floor on my side. My mind was blinded by the memories of the icy cold fear that stabbed me hours ago.

My eyes widened as though they attempted to focus on the reality before me. My room and that room was spinning images into my head. I tried to slide onto my stomach and face him.

"Y-you, when you said- you needed me... You wanted me for my body- " My throat was throbbing and pulsing to bring forth the fluffs so I covered my mouth but nothing came out. Only my voice was muffled by the air I breathed.

"You're gonna kill me and use me! That's why you need me huh?! Then why heal me and feed me? Just hurry up and finish me off then you'll have all you need. It's 'cause I'm not infected right? Those people... They had the curse marks, deep purple vines swirling throughout their body... They were infected weren't they?! Tell me! Isn't that what you wanted, what you needed from me?" I growled out my hatred and anger towards this devil.

The devil walked up to me, "You need to calm down. It's true I need you because you're not infected and yes, I do need you for research, but you're not going to be killed nor will I be the one to kill you. I still don't know why the Imperials want you, but because they want you, you'll be alive for however long you're needed. So just be grateful that you've survived 'til now because you're useful."

My body was too shocked to move anymore, my arms and legs were heavily chained to the floor by the atmosphere. "Why should I fall for your crap, huh?! Who are you? What are you?!" I grinded my teeth. I was helpless. My mind was breaking and my body wouldn't listen to me. I'm gonna die here while these demons use me and my kin. We're just tools, animals used for labor and entertainment for these fools..

"Hey stupid, you really will die like this if you let your mind be corrupted by your anger. You're in shock and you're suffering from hyperthermia and frostbite yet your body should be healing with your mana. Your mana is being blocked from your emotional state. Calm down if you wanna survive. I do need you but not in the way you're thinking of. We both want to go home. We both have family there and want to return back to them. That's all there is to it. No trickery, no slavery, nothing but freedom. Those celestial servants aren't the ones in charge of this church, only I am. The ones who did this to you, I've ordered them to leave. We don't have many servants to help out so some of them must stay. But don't worry, soon enough it will just be you and me. The imperials are gathering all the servants to serve at the main head. But you, you need rest. I'm sorry things turned for the worst for you while I was gone. From now on, you'll be given similar rights to a pureblood, but only if you obey the laws of the imperials. They want you to serve them in the near future and the best we can do is suck it up until we have the opportunity to escape from here, got it?!" He slammed my body flat then turned me onto my back then slammed me again. The fear was leaving me and the heat of the fire was melting away my mind, thawing my arms and legs. The room was starting to look normal. He lifted me back into my bed and I stared at him.

"What did you do? I thought my spine was going to snap, but it didn't. What was that?" I asked him, exhausted from the surging feelings and pain I had felt earlier.

" I snapped the flow of your mana in your body so it could flow through out your body better. Let your body rest. In two days you will be summoned to the imperials then afterwards you'll care for the church while I'm away. You'll visit the imperials atleast two times a month so be prepared, don't rise your anger onto them and try to keep your bloodlust down. Otherwise out of disgust, they will eliminate you and you won't be able to return home. I won't be the one to carry your body there, you are. So if you still want to survive then do as I say, for my sake and your sake. We need to survive this together. You asked who I was. I'm a doctor and scientist from the imperial court. I study the infected and uninfected. I don't have much power since I'm a rival candidate so don't hope for me to save your butt. Instead try to think smarter for your sake."

"..what were those monsters in the forest? They're the beasts of this land am I right?" I asked.

"They're called wolves. They kill and feast in packs in order for them to survive together."

"Then we're like them.. We'll do what we need to, to survive," I mumbled.

"Sleep. It's good enough you didn't hurl up your dinner, but you still need to rest. Take your medicine. It's painkillers, healing your mana, and curing you from the beast poisons. Beasts on this planet are far more poisonous than the ones at home. Tomorrow you'll start learning about this world and your role in the court's plan. We were going to go through it today but it doesn't look like your mind nor your body is ready." Varen said as he left the room.

"You'll have to earn my trust!" I yelled back at him.

"Whether you trust me or not, you'll have to depend on me to survive," he replies.

I picked up the green iridescent pills. Can I really trust him? He healed me and ordered his servants to leave. Is this medicine safe or poison? Would my life really be safe here? No, my life is being spared until the moment the imperials deem me useless. All I can do is count on Varen's word to survive... Even if it might be possible to return home.
