Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

I woke up with a groan. My head was hurting, probably because of the drug they had given me. There was some yelling I could hear from the background, not sure from where it originated. I opened my eyes to see that I was staring right at a flashbulb. I sat up and looked around to find out where exactly I was.

I was in a small handmade crib. There was a desk and chair on one side of the room. The walls had a cream color with a sea green borderline. There was a couch and a chair as well. The door opened and a couple walked in. Who were they?

"Oh darling, you are awake!"

The woman was pretty and had a luring figure. Her black hair went perfectly with her light brown eyes. The man beside her was pretty handsome too, but he seemed old. Were they even a couple at all?

The woman came over and picked me up. She looked at me with a huge bright smile on her face. She gave me a sort of feeling like Diana did. She also had this mother-like aura, which helped me feel relaxed.

"Dad, look how cute he is? He is innocent. I bet he doesn't even know why he was taken from his parents. You can't kill him." Oh, so she was on my side. That is good.

Persuade him even more.

"But Maria. His parents were the reason why your brother died. If he wasn't an adventurer with him, Darek would have survived. Plus, the other people want us to silence Jake and Valerie since they know about it."

"First of all, Darek considered Jake as his older brother. Darek told me before he died that it wasn't their fault. He would be sad if you did something like this to Jake. Also, we have to kill his parents, not him. Why is he even included in this? He is too young."

"I'm not too keen on killing a child either. I had children too, but I can't do anything since this is what they wanted. This is the debt I have to do for resurrecting your mother."

"Why do we have to kill their children though?"

Her voice was confident and strong, which I admired. Maria went silent for a second.

"Why don't we fake his death?"

"They will catch on, you know that."

"Then how about this? Instead of killing him now, why don't we kill him later? We are still killing him, but later."

"I don't think they will know, plus you are good at things like this. Please."

"What do you plan on doing with him until he gets old

er?"

"Until he is ready, I will take care of him like my own child. You know me and Albert cannot have a child because I am infertile. We were looking for a child we could adopt." The man thought about it for a while.

"What if you gain feelings for this child?"

"Then you can rip the child away from me. Just give me three years, plus our house is only thirty minutes away from yours."

They stared into each other's eyes until the old man gave up.

"Why did Derek even help them out in the beginning, then they wouldn't be targeted? They should have just minded their own business too."

Maria squealed with happiness and hugged the old man with me crushed in between. After that, Maria gave me a soft kiss on the cheek.

"Welcome to my family, my sweet little angel." I could tell from her genuine smile that she meant it. Probably I could use her as my shield until I am old enough to run away. I also need a place to train my powers, so I could start using magic as soon as possible and return home. The major reason why I was so worried about getting back home was the egg, what if someone breaks it? Or the baby finally comes out? Thousands of thoughts crossed my mind, I needed to get back as soon as I could. But, HOW?! I knew

my parents would be worried about me too, especially mom.

There was a carriage parked at the front of the old man's manor. This one was pulled by four horses, unlike the carriage we took from the old home. That one only had two horses attached to it. There was a horseman that helped Maria into the carriage. I was on her lap the whole ride to her mansion. During that time, she was talking but did not expect an answer.

"From now on, you are my dear son. I am really excited about how Albert will feel when he sees his new son arrive at home." I could tell she was really happy about this. Although I was not supposed to sympathize with her, I felt bad for her. She really wanted to have a child and must have been really upset when she found out that she was infertile.

It did take around half an hour to reach her house. Well, it was really a mansion. How rich were these people? There were many rose bushes with different colored roses at the front and a beautiful water fountain. The carriage stopped at the main door. I peeked through the window to see many soldiers, a butler, and a man standing at the front door. The man came down along with the butler. The butler opened the door and the man reached out his hand to help her out.

"Albert."

She said that name with a caring and touching smile. So this was her husband. Albert was tall and built. His brown hair matched Maria's eyes. He did suit Maria in all aspects. He made eye contact with me as he noticed Maria holding a

little child. He bent down and gave me a smile, but his eyes looked curious.

"Hello, little guy! What's your name?" Albert had an innocent face while asking this, so I felt comfortable. Were they really my parents' enemy?

"I don't think-"

"Alex." I cut her off without thinking. They both gasped when I said my name. Did I make a mistake? I was on high alert. Their shocked faces turned into smiles. Albert picked me up and put me high up in the air, making his head lift up to look at me. A bright smile was still on his face.

"Hello, Alex. Welcome to Maria's and my house." I gave a little smile that made him smile even more.

"He is our new son. Dad was about to kill him, so I took him from Dad. His parents and their family are being targeted by them. I couldn't let him do it, since he was so young. I wish I could do more for him. Father is trying to help as well, but I hope this decision will not hurt him in the process." Tears were flowing down her face as she started to cry. She put her hand up to her face so no one would see them.

"No honey, what you did was right. I am pretty sure Derek would be happy with this. Plus, be happy. We got a new son." Maria looked up at Albert. She looked better.

"You're right. I shouldn't welcome him with tears." Maria picked me up and started smiling. Tears were

still flowing down her eyes, so I reached out with my hands and wiped her tears off her face.

"Thank you." Her voice turned soft, must have been crying. I just knew they were good people. Sometimes things that happen in the past have an influence on our future, but I believe that it is just a misunderstanding that causes all the trouble between these people. How can I resolve this without hurting either of them? My mind started to race.

We walked up to the stairs of the front door, which was opened by the soldiers standing by the door. Were they important people or something?

The inside of the mansion was huge. Well, compared to my castle back in my past life, it was only a tenth of its size, but it was still huge. There was a huge chandelier in the middle of the main hall with a lot of crystals or were they diamonds? I am not sure but the crystals were sharp and really clear. It really was pretty attention-grabbing.

Two staircases were leading upstairs. Each step was covered with black granite with silver, not inline stripes. There was a gray fur carpet, right underneath. Their interior designs were also my type of style. I loved their sense of styling the house.

"I'm going to say this one more time, Alex. This is going to be your new home." I smiled brightly indicating that I am happy as long as I survive. I wondered how my life is going to be with this new couple? How many changes I had to experience before I finally settled into this new world? There were many more questions cluttered in my mind – questions only time could answer.
