Chapter 2 - Duty

We survived another day but suffered a tremendous amount of losses. Of the battlion sent here we only have less than half of Bravo company, which I'm apart of, and Delta company. We lost Charlie company and a majority of Alpha when they broke through back to the main HQ a day after they surrounded us. We still don't know how the fuck they got a EMP jammer the size of a refrigerator, because of that thing we had to plan a breakout to contact backup.

It's been a week since this siege started and we're running low on food and ammunition. We got to keep holding out and ignore the wounds we all suffered so far.

As I looked up and saw more of the Enemy coming I uttered a short prayer to God and said to myself " Once more unto the breach." and then to the soldiers around me " Give them Hell Boys! Make them Bleed for Every Inch!" The next hour was filled with the roar of gunfire.

"Come on Curt. Don't you Fucking Dare fall asleep on me you bastard!" I screamed as I carried Captain Curt to our Final Stand point.

"Ahhh Fuck!" I screamed in pain as I hit the ground and tossed the captain forward before I tasted muddy sand watered with the blood of my brothers; and feeling a intense shot of agony rip through my side I knew that I got shot. ' Come on you piece of shit! Move!' I screamed to myself as I forced my body to move through the pain and grab my M60 from where it had fallen; and quickly turned around to unlease the last fifty bullets I have at the advancing enemy that has finally breeched the wall.

I started to move towards where I threw Curt while, I supported my right side with my elbow, firing my gun in bursts to make the most of my remaining ammo. When I got to be about a couple feet away from Curt's position my gun made that fucking noise ' Click.' I quickly tossed my M60 aside and dolphin dived Captain Curt tackling him behind a burning Humvee.

" FUCK!" I screamed out as the jaring force my instinctual action caused pain to erupt in my side. I bite out a stream of curses to deal with the pain; while I quickly grabbed a flashbang and smoke grenade from my belt and pulling the pins and tossing them at the enemy in the order that I withdrew them from my belt. I took a quick glance at Captain Curt and saw that the wound in his leg is under control with the tourniquet I hastily applyed before we retreated.

I quickly grabbed Captain Curt and carried him towards the building we decided to make our last stand at, and I heard two things that were the sweetest sound to my ears: The barking command of "Covering Fire!" and the roar of different caliber guns firing giving me protection as I limped towards and through the door making my way to the makeshift medical center to get us patched up and back in the fight.

A medic quickly came up to me and told me where to set Captain Curt down to begin treating him. I set him down and sat down next to his cot; and begun to take off the top part of my BDU. After I got it off I started to wrap my torso up to apply constant pressure to the wound and stem the bleeding.

After I finished wrapping up my stomach, getting approved by the medic and shoved out to make room for the ones in more critical condition; I headed to the upper level, where the command room is, to retrieve my SAW that I set here to use for the final defence.

As soon as I got to the upper floor I immediately stood to attention and snapped a salute to General Holmes and our Colonel Watson standing over a map of our surroundings, arguing between each other, with two Sergeants, three Corporals, and two Privates that looked like they didn't know what the fuck was going on.

" At ease Specialist. Now Colonel Watson we must hold out until we can get reinforcements from the air or the ground that are sure to come; it has been ." spoke General Holmes in a tone that was filled with surety that what he said would happen.

" Bullshit General we're losing badly! We're down to eighty men and thirty of them are to wounded to even fight. Of the eight hundred men I originally had I now have one hundred left; if any of those men in A company made it through that death trap you had them go through!" screamed Colonel Watson with indignation clear in his voice.

General Holmes just stood there looking at our Colonel like he was a fool. " Colonel Watson your plan to retreat into a hole in the mountain that has not been explored is foolhardy at best and suicidal at worst. If there is no exit they will close the entrance and we will suffocate, and if there is a exit we may run out of supplies for the men leaving them to face a slow death, and if we do go into that hole we will be slow due to our wounded allowing our enemy to catch-up and slaughter us. Our only chance is to stay and fight Till the Last Man my dear Watson." said General Holmes with a rising frustration in his voice.

Suddenly, we heard a explosion and saw a cloud of smoke out the window. I immediately moved and grabbed my SAW bracing it on the sandbags we stacked up in front of the windows peering, into the smoke, and as I looked for a shape to fill up with holes I heard Colonel Watson say " It seems that you got your wish Holmes." as I heard the bolts, mine as one of them, being pulled back and gunfire erupted outward towards the enemy's final push.

As we began to blast the bastards to hell and suffering ten more casualties in the effort of doing so, we suddenly saw explosions ripping through the enemy position.

" What the fuck?" I heard someone say what we were all thinking. Then we saw it, jets flying by raining death down on the enemy and several helicopters coming our way being only several hundred yards out; suddenly I saw them taking evasive maneuvers and immediately grabbed the man next to me and threw him at the far wall. Then I immediately spun around to hit the deck and beheld that the Colonel and General were behind me fiddleing with the, now online, radio unit.

I dove at them yelling " Get down!" when they turned towards me they were already airborne from the flying shove I gave them. That was all I could do before I felt heat, a crushing weight, and lightheaded to the extreme. I saw darkness creeping into my vision and all I could think was ' I did my duty dad. I hope your proud of me.' before I knew only darkness.
