I quickly pulled James' arm to run to the station "What's wrong?" asked James
"It's Agatha!" I panicked
"What? what happened to her?"
"Not 'Her', 'Him'!" I corrected. James looked confuse. I had to explain to him that Agatha is a guy who has a girl's name.
I barged open the door. There he was, lying dead on his desk. Beside him were officer Heinz and another male officer.
"Agatha!" cried the male officer
But upon closer inspection, I recognized that it was not him and explained.
"What?" asked officer Heinz "Are you sure?"
"I'm done deducing the obvious infront of stupid people in this town!" I said "Yes, he is wearing Agatha's uniform, but look closely and you will see that it is a bit bigger than the bitch lying dead on the damn desk. And look at his fucking hands, Agatha's hands are tan and his right hand has a small wound from firing a gun because he's an idiot just like everyone else in this town. This one does not have a bloody wound!"
"What?" asked James
"I miss Jane"
"We all miss her, bro"
"And I was finally gonna chill with my new fucking life!" I complained
"Hey" comforted officer Heinz
"Shut up!" I yelled in agony "I know what I have to do! But I'm gonna need everyone by my side to stay the fuck alive this time! Where's my fucking dog?"
"Emily? I've been taking good care of her ever
since you trusted me with her"
"Good! now I am gonna need some alone time with this damn body. Everybody, get the fuck out!" I demanded. Nobody said anything and walked outside, letting me focus on the corpse
It only took me an hour to get a clue on who did this and stepped outside. Officer Heinz and James were sitting on the floor waiting for me.
"You done?" asked James
"You guys waited for me?" I asked
"Yeah" answered officer Heinz "Aren't we friends?"
I thought for a second trying to think of a reply. Friends? The only person I considered a friend was Jane and she is no longer with me. Before her, I had Emily who is also no longer with me. My dad could not be a friend. I thought of one thing to do to protect myself. To protect my feelings and my heart.
"I'm sorry" I exclaimed "But just because I care about you, doesn't mean I consider you my friends. I know it probably hurts, but I need to protect myself the most"
"I understand" replied officed Heinz
"I, too" said James "But still, let us help you"
"You just said you care about us. I don't really understand you, but I'm here to help. Now let's go and get your dog"
"I hope she remembers me" I said
"She does, she's a dog. Also, you don't need to call me 'Officer' anymore. Just Heinz"
After our conversation, some doctors barged in to take the body away. I told them to leave the pants with me and so they did under Heinz's consent because he was the one with the badge.
When we arrived at Heinz's house, Emily ran up to me and jumped. She was bigger and furrier but still cute, licking and barking at me. Her tail wagging very fast.
"I missed you too, buddy" I said, petting her head and booping her nose.
"Why did you name her after your dead sister?" asked James
"Why not?"
Heinz came up to me.
"What happened to your car, by the way?" he asked "The fancy one that looks like the one on that tv show with David Hasselhoff?"
"It's been so long. Honestly, I can't remember. Also, I'm hungry" I claimed as my stomach rumbled in desperation for food. Heinz went to the kitchen to cook what was an amazing. I absolutely had no idea what it was but did not bother asking because it might ruin my appetite. I complimented before getting a thank you from Heinz. I remember when he used to slam papers on people's desks because he was that rude. Little did I know we would start working together and he would consider me his friend. We had the discussion of the crime scene on the table. I placed the pants on the middle when we were done eating.
"Tell me, what can you see?" I asked. The two inspected closely to conclude that they could only see a pair of pants because they were that stupid.
"Do you see a small orange dot?"
"No. Oh! actually yeah!" said James. Heinz observed
"I've seen multiple orange dots on this uniform, which is suspicious to me"
"I don't see how some dots can be suspicious as fuck" said Heinz
"Look closer, retard" I teased "These dots are, quite obviously, not there before. You can see the small ink shit stuff from the marker, whatever the fuck that's called. And there aren't just dots, there are lines too. If this is indeed a clue, then it's gotta be a code. Tell me, what code has dots and lines?"
"Morse code" answered Heinz and James at the same time.
"Exactly!" I snapped my fingers "So all we need to do is fold this shit until we get morse code"
And so we folded the pants normally, but the dots and lines, when we deciphered, said NOLIMACHERNOV
"Could this be a German word? maybe Russian?" asked Heinz
"No, it's gibberish. Perhaps we have to fold it in a certain way or some shit"
"How do you know?"
"Look at the placements for the dots and lines, it's all over the place"
"My cousin used to do this with you?" asked James. I nodded.
"Did you ever get into some Indiana Jones shit?"
"Let's talk about shit like that later" I said "Right now, we must think! Ooooh, that could be a catchphrase for me- 'Let's think'. Do you guys think I need a catchphrase?"
"I think you need to focus" said Heinz.
We folded and folded but always got gibberish or words that did not make sense, unless I was too stupid to understand them. Then it hit me!
"What if there's actually no code?"
"What?" asked James
"What if it's all a distraction? why couldn't I see it? Why the fuck am I like this?"
"William, you're not looking so good" claimed Heinz.
My chest was in pain, I was and scared, my heart was racing. I was having an anxiety attack and fell to a chair, breathing heavily.
"William!" panicked Heinz "You need to rest for a while"
"I can't rest!" I cried "I can't do anything right!"
