"I died"
These were the first words to come out of Yamamoto Kei, as he was floating in the endless darkness.
"How did it happen" Kei spoke, he could remember everything about himself when he was alive, except how he had died. He tried to recall the last memory he had before ending in this endless darkness.
'I remember waking up and going to work but that's about all I recall' thought Kei. No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't remember anything after that.
Suddenly a playful voice spoke back to Kei "It would be more surprising if you did remember"
Kei was shocked hearing that someone else was here with him, but also a bit happy knowing he was not here alone. After all who would want to spend time in an endless void of darkness by themselves.
The only thing Kei could ask the voice that responded back at this point was "who are you?"
The voice sounded very happy to hear that question " I am the all mighty and powerful system, please do not feel obligated to kneel and worship my awe-inspiring greatness."
Kei couldn't see the system, but he could already imagine it striking a strong yet silly pose as it said those words. What Kei thought next was 'is this going to be like those novels and anime that I have seen before, where I get reincarnated in another world with some sort of cheat skill'
"Well aren't you smart, that is exactly what this situation is" spoke the system in a cheerful voice
No matter how Kei thought about it, he just couldn't believe it. Just minutes ago, he was just an average person going about his daily routine. Now he was dead and going to reincarnate with over powered skills to boot.
Just as all these thoughts were racing across his mind, the system that had been waiting for him to calm himself down spoke "I believe you got the wrong idea on how you get your gift"
"Huh?"
"It is true that you will get a gift in the form of a power or skill, but the possibility of it being over powered depends on your own luck" the system then started to clarify how one got their gifts "the way I give people their gift is different from other systems. The way I do it is by having them roll the dice, The higher the number the greater the gift will be"
The system then continued "by the way it is a twenty sided dice, you get one roll and that's it, also if you want something over powered you need to get sixteen or higher"
When Kei heard that, he was in a bit of a loss "that would mean I have a one in four chance to get something amazing"
"Well, are you ready to roll the dice? Or do you still need a minute to take it all in"
Kei held the dice in his hand and said "I'm ready"
As he said that, he rolled the dice. The dice that was thrown out of his hand seemed to hit an invisible surface and started to roll for a bit until finally stopping.
The system that saw the number spoke to Kei in a bit of a surprised tone "this is the first time I saw somebody roll something higher than a fourteen"
When Kei who heard that said "Is it that difficult to get such a high number roll"
"Difficult doesn't even begin to describe it" said the system before it continued "to roll a eighteen like you did can be considered to be a miracle"
The system truly was shocked. The dice that it used had a limit set in to make it near impossible to roll something over powered like Kei had. That was because humans and other mortal beings like them were not the most responsible when having powerful gifts given to them, as many who had received a gift ranging from ten through fourteen often got too full of themselves and felt like everything in the world they were in was beneath them.
'Well nothing I can do about it now' thought the system
" now that you rolled let's see what you get from the roll" spoke the system with a cheerful voice like its previous surprise never happened
When Kei heard the system say that, he looked at the dice again and noticed that it was beginning to glow. The dice glowed more and more until Kei was blinded by the light.
"Wow, you got something great, did you seduce the goddess of luck before you died or something?" Said the system in an impressed tone of voice
Kei couldn't help but say "If I had I wouldn't have died in the first place"
The system responded "Well, your not wrong. Now let me congratulate you on getting the ability of [Nature], truly in all my years I never have seen anyone get this ability, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how well you use it"
When Kei heard he got the ability called [Nature], he didn't have a good impression of it as he though '[Nature] doesn't that mean I can bend plant life and the elements around me, doesn't fell so OP to me'
The system hearing his thoughts responded "this is the problem with mortal races such as yourself, your thoughts on things are far too limited"
Hearing this Kei couldn't help but ask "What do you mean by limited thinking?"
The system replied "Exactly what I said, you are thinking of nature as something limited to your surroundings or the world you will be in as the limit. That is why I said you have limited thought because the ability of [Nature] encompasses the universe as a whole, meaning so long as it is part of the universe you are going to be living in you can use, manipulate, or become part of it as you wish"
When Kei heard what the system said he realized that his thinking was indeed limited. Being able to use all kinds of things as a power meant that he had a near limitless number of ways to fight and protect himself.
When the system heard him think that it was happy, not because Kei was realizing the potential of [Nature], but because of his next words "Just because you have the ability doesn't mean you will know how to use all of its potential uses. For example you can create a black hole but do you know how it's made?"
When Kei heard that he couldn't help but curse in his mind 'shit if I had known I would get this ability I would have studied more seriously at school'
The system couldn't stop itself from laughing as it said "it wouldn't matter, after all everything scientists have figured out is nothing more than pure theory, and what little they have understood is just the tip of the iceberg hahaha"
Seeing the expression Kei had on his face the system finally calmed down before saying "Now that we know what ability you have let's see what world you will end up on"
When the system finished its words the dice which had been still, started to glow again. Once the dice stopped glowing, words were engraved on it spelling out [My Hero Academia].
When the system saw that it joyously spoke "congratulations on reincarnating in the [My Hero Academia World]"
When Kei heard that he was excited "that's amazing, I'm going to live in a world with actual heroes and villains in it"
While Kei was excited about that, he was more happy about the fact that the world he was reincarnating into had toilets.
'I won't have to shit in the woods or some stinky ass outhouse' thought Kei
"Now that you know what ability you have, and what world your going to end up in, all that is left is to tell you that your ability will be temporarily sealed"
When Kei heard that he panicked and yelled "Why is my ability going to be sealed"
"Why? Isn't the reason obvious? It's because your going to reincarnateas an infant so how can we systems allow a newborn to have powers right from the get go, much less one with an OP ability such as yours"
When Kei thought about it, it did make sense. How could a newborn baby have such strong powers and what would people think if they saw such a thing.
"Alright I understand, so how long will it be till my ability is unsealed?" Said Kei in an understanding tone of voice
The system thought for a bit, then answered "Till you reach the age of seven. Normally it would be five, but your ability will manifest at a much stronger degree compared to others, so I am extending the time required for you to use it"
Kei was a little bummed out to hear that he would have to wait longer to use his ability.
Hearing his thoughts the system said "I should also mention that your upbringing till the age of seven won't be easy. The reason for that is your ability, since it's OP I will also increase the difficulty of your upbringing"
Kei couldn't help but say "isn't it enough already that I have to wait longer than the usual to get my power, but your also going to make my childhood difficult, this doesn't seem fair at all"
"Fine, I'll do you a favor and open the seal just a little tiny bit so you can use your power earlier starting at the age of four but your childhood difficultly will increase a bit more, are you happy with that?
"Yes that's great, thank you" Kei agreed immediately
Even if the difficulty increased a bit more, with his power being accessible earlier, he should be able to handle it no matter how hard his life would begin at.
When the system heard Kei agree it said "Well now that everything is taken care of, I will now send you to the [My Hero Academia World]. Good luck, I'm sure you'll have one hell of a time"
As the system said those words Kei started to slowly disappear
"Thank you system, I will never forget this opportunity you have given me" yelled Kei as he was disappearing into tiny particles of light
The last thoughts Kei was thinking about before completely disappearing was how excited he was knowing he would be living in such a fantastic world that had people with powers everywhere.

After Kei left the system couldn't help but speak with a voice full of pity "Boy, if only you knew what awaits you in that world, you wouldn't be thanking me in the least"
As the system thought of how foolish Kei was for accepting his power a little earlier in exchange for increasing the difficulty of his childhood.
"Your life is going to be miserable in the beginning, to the point that you will have a tiny chance to reach the age of seven, and now thanks to you eagerly increasing the difficulty, your odds to reach the age of seven are basically none existent"
The system thought about a time long ago, when it and all the other systems came to an agreement. The agreement was simple no matter what method they used to give skills, powers, and abilities, they would make it very difficult for mortals to get the strongest powers.
When the system thought to there "If only I hadn't given her that ability back then"
Yes back when the system was starting out it had given an ability so powerful that it threatened the balance of power.
"If only I hadn't done that, you wouldn't have to suffer there and die so young"
After that incident, not only was the rule of increasing the difficulty established, but there was another rule put in place, and that was If someone still managed to get such a grand power.
"Make sure they die young"
The system couldn't help but remember Keis previous life. Kei was a kind, generous person with a good personality. The more it thought about Kei the more it was hoping he would survive.
The system couldn't help but sigh before it said "well, I didn't lie to you"
As it's voice started to fade in the endless darkness
"You really will have, one hell of a life"
