IT HAD TAKEN Alice way too much energy to tear herself away from Spade's alluringly piercing gaze. She had found a feeble excuse for herself before rushing off, claiming that she had to use the washroom urgently to touch up.
Spade had watched her leave, an amused smile dancing upon his lips last Alice checked. However, she didn't keep her gaze on him after a few more steps.
Alice didn't want Spade to know how flustered he made her feel with just one simple word.
The classical music from the ballroom faded away into the background with every step Alice took away. Her heels clicked against the cold stone of the palace floors, but even that couldn't quell the burning flame that was rising in Alice's body. It scorched her, only growing in ferocity whenever she thought back to Spade.
