"WHAT DO YOU mean by that?" Alice questioned.
The way Hartley had said it made her skin crawl. Her palms had started to turn clammy with perspiration, a thin sheen glistening against her skin.
"It's just…" Hartley trailed off.
He clenched his jaw, glaring hard at the direction the horse-drawn carriage had disappeared behind.
The townsfolk had eventually returned to their daily lives. They cursed and swore a little, shaking their fists in anger. However, ultimately, no one got hurt and there were no serious repercussions. While the safety of the driver was unknown, at least the townsfolk were well.
At least Alice was well.
"Nevermind," Hartley said instead with a sigh. "As long as you're unhurt."
