"SHIT," AN EXPLETIVE fell from Spade's lips as he hurriedly placed his hand over Alice's eyes, covering them when she made no sound. He cautiously pulled her away from the detached head, taking a step away from the corpse.
A collective gasp shot up from the crowd before a moment of silence fell. The air was still, cold, as everyone looked left and right before their eyes fell on the blade that was coated with a layer of crimson blood.
"What were you thinking?" Spade hissed, his grip on Alice tightening when he felt her stiffen at the raise of his voice. "He was supposed to be brought in for questioning."
"He was about the attack," Hartley answered plainly, staring at the headless body that had long-collapsed onto the ground. "I did what I had to do."
