Indigo POV
RECAP-
"You told me not to talk in front of people and I tried to signal to you. Do you know how long I stood on two feet and waved with front paws? But you were too focused on that Red-head," White Bun pouted again and his large purple eyes shimmered with grief.
"Oh... Um... I'm sorry. I'll buy you a lot of food to eat tonight, Okay?" I said with a bitter smile. A toothy grin instantly bloomed on his distraught face.
"I forgive you!" He nudged his nose into the crook of my neck.
-----------
By the time we made it back to the guild it the sun was setting, the sky more orange than an orange itself. The fluffy cotton candy clouds stained by the sky's explosion of yellows. I threw the double door of the guild open with a scowl on my face. The sap clinging to my skin got to me, after some time in the cool air the sap returned to its previous viscous state. My clothes never to be salvaged again, if I ever saw that Red-head again I would be sure to be reimbursed. White Bun strode beside me, reluctant to perch himself on my sap ridden body and ruin his glossy snowy fur.
Stares planted themselves on my frame, to which I returned with an angry glare. I dragged my heavy limbs which constantly stuck together only separating when I ripped them apart, almost tearing skin along with it. I chucked my bag onto the front desk and slammed my guild card soaked in sap down. "I finished my quests," I shot my eyes towards the man, my brows furrowed in anger.
"Huh, oh yeah....um..."
"Don't you dare ask," I warned through grit teeth.
"I...okay," He raised his palms in defeat and plucked the items from my bag one by one with his head lowered. While I waited I tapped my finger impatiently on the desk in a rhythmic pulse.
"Okay...um....The Red-Horned wolf quest is twenty silver coins and one hundred and fifty merit points, but you have two extra wolves' fangs and claws so it's twenty-eight. The Blue-Horned Wolf quest is five silver and copper coins, fifty merit points-"
"Okay, you don't need to tell me this, can you just tell me the total or give me a summary?" I asked with a polite smile twitching at the ends threatening to fall apart.
"Well.... The Afru fruits are for thirty silver coins, two-hundred and fifty merit points, so in all, you have sixty-three silver coins and five copper. You have also earned five hundred merit points maxing your rank with fifty left over to add to your next Rank. So.... congrats on your rank up to Rank D," He said with an awkward smile "Give me a moment while I prepare your next guild card and money." I nodded.
After five minutes he returned with a pouch of money and a new iron guild card signifying Rank D. "Thank you. How much do I need to reach Rank C?"
"Oh, six hundred points,"
"Thanks," I waved him goodbye. I tottered to the inn, and after scrubbing off the sap till my skin reddened, I headed to the Silver Spoon with White Bun bouncing beside me but I was not nearly as jubilant as him, I discarded my clothes, ruined beyond saving by sap. I ended up pulling on my old tattered clothes, but the eyepatch ripped so I could only cover my eye with a coarse cloth bandage.
"Miss! I'm so excited to eat! Get me meat! Loads and loads and loads of it!~" White Bun twisted through my legs, barely dodging my feet but nearly tripping me in the process.
"White Bun... I told you, you need to be quiet and play your part," I cinched my nose and furrowed my brows.
"But..."
"What if you get kidnapped, White Bun? Do you want to be sold and forced into a Master-Servant Contract?" I said, trying my best to remain calm. "Come here," I reached my arms down. He hopped into my arms and I let him crawl onto my shoulder.
"If you want to talk, whisper in my ear," I said in compromise.
"Okay, Miss..." He nudged my face with his silky nose and wagged his bushy tail, grazing it against my neck.
Once we reached the inn following White Bun's wishes I ordered as much food to fill our table. While he gobbled his food, I sat on the side munching on the plate of fruit and bowl of soup. The restaurant was oddly packed, full of adventurers who came back from quests. The suffocating heat hit me from all sides while my nose was tickled with sweat mixed with food and alcohol, creating an odd, uncomfortable combination. Rowdy jabber and clattering of utensils filled the air. While the air was swamped with cigar smoke, creating a white haze in the restaurant.
Amid distracting myself from the jarring situation, I caught a glimpse of a familiar strand of red hair; it was that Red-Head, he and I had a few things to take care of. I stood up, grabbed White Bun. His paw outstretched towards the table with longing. "I'll buy you a snack later," I whispered into his ear. His ear twitched side to side, then he finally settled in my hands.
