The bell rang for a lunch break, recesses aren't a thing in this era for unanimous reasons so Carnia had to knaw her hair strand in hunger she wasn't used to not having a tea break for biscuits. she needed something to chew instead of her pens or it may seem unhygienic even though science proclaims that human hair is one of the dirtiest things but she didn't seem to mind it.
"Carnia, lets go out and eat~."
Rina strolled down to her seat and grabbed both of her hands, pulling her out from her desk. Carnia groaned she contemplated whether to eat or sleep, she almost fell asleep from the topic the professor was discussing : History, even when she was still Haru from the other world she despised this subject.
The irony was that the first time she had been reincarnated she pledged to learn more about this world but all she did was eat, sleep and train. There was one time she got lost in the plaza of Zara near the house of Valentines in Venia, she became distracted by the beautiful ladies with extravagant jewels attached on their bodies only to follow them on a non-kid friendly area where magic occurs on beds.
"I am hungry~ but I am tired."
"what do you want?, I'll get it for you."
Carnia's eyes glimmered in happiness, Rina is such a good friend she insinuated to slave herself only for her selfishness. Ryan watched the whole slave x master transaction and tried to take part in it too.
"I want a sandwich."
Ryan handed Rina his money, he propped his arms in a cross-arms position on his desk and sunk his head. "zzz" emoji's already emitting on top of his head.
"Who asked your opinion?."
Nevertheless, Rina still put the money in her pocket in fear of the rank difference between them she may scuffle around with him every now and then but she had to be wary.
"I want a sandwich too~."
"Okay~, you rest here and I will quickly go get it for you."
Rina left the room, leaving the two of them to nap. The two of them didn't bother talking to each other they were too tired from earlier unexpectedly Ryan didn't have any interest in history as well.
"Hey."
Ryan turned his face on the right side, staring at Carnia's eyes already looking at him when called out. Their eyes interlocking, a small spark ignited between them, amusement and disgust radiated within Ryan, he squinted his eyes like he was eyeing her in a cautious manner.
"How did you do it."
"Do what?."
She knew what he was going to ask but she wouldn't just give up her own technique's, showing the enemy your knives is a fools choice, playing dumb was the wisest action.
"…"
He rolled his eyes at her, moved his head to the right side facing the window. Carina chuckled at his little temper but didn't do anything to satiate his sulking.
"Two sandwiche's and one strawberry milkshake."
Arriving right on time is Rina with an extra helper beside her. The person had dirty blonde hair that hid half of his face, he was 2x bigger than Carina and had a masculine aura.
"This is Sam, he helped me carry the rest of the food."
Sam nodded, he didn't seem much of a talker from the looks of it he maybe stuck in one of those emo phases in highschool. They all sat down in the same row as them, Ryan was forced to scooch till he had about an inch left for his butt to meet the stairs.
"So what course are you taking Sam?."
Carnia bit into her sandwich, feeling as if something was missing she rumaged around the bread and found a strange substance on her food.
"Piolo."
"Heh, you into politics huh."
Rina turned her head to Carnia's wondering why was she dissecting her food. She offered her unbitten food to Carnia's and took the difformed sandwich on her to hand to her very own.
"Hm..."
There was a moment of silence with only the noise of chewing can be heard, they were all staring at the board infront of them.
"Hey, have you heared the crown prince took Vanity as his course."
Rina gossiped to the whole group, sharing how she heard students talking about the crown prince examination test turned into a disaster. The whole room burned excluding the students and examinor tasked to give their ranks, they had to move the remaining examineers to the next room due to the area being in ruins.
"I just hope I won't meet him again."
Carnia drank her milk shake, tapping her nails on the desk remembering how annoying and manipulative he has been since the past years.
"I thought you two were very close?."
Ryan finished his food and started chattering again, listing the rumors spread on the city.
"Yeah, I heard the two of you are going to get engaged."
"What?!."
Carnia stood up from her seat and looked side by side, shocked by the rumor regarding the relationship of the once arch enemy.
"Its true I also heard it yesterday when I was taking a nap."
____
"Father what's the meaning of this?."
She contacted her father in the middle of the night thru a spherical globe given to her the day she left the house to fend on her own.
"Meaning of what dear?."
Carlton was still awake signing a bunch of stacked papers on the corner of the table almost toppling of by the sheer amount of it.
"About me and August's engagement?."
A year ago Carlton asked Carnia's oppion concerning the engagement of the two, Carnia denied his offer many times arguing that she would never marry someone she only met for a few days even if his status is the crown prince.
"I am sorry but the King never gave me a choice."
Him and the King can be considered as best friends since childhood, they were close like a magnet on a metal the two of them were unseparable. This was the first time Arthur acted alone without his supervision it conveyed how he really wanted Carnia to be his grandaughter, having an extraordinary daughter had its drawback.
"Think of it as a way to benefit the family and you never know, you may learn to have feelings for him too."
Carlton felt as if a sour taste had left his tongue when he said his last sentence, he never imagined that his daughter would be first sent off before Ethan.
"Fine.."
Carnia dejectfully poked the cheek of a stuffed teddy bear stationed near her night lap where the communication globe is placed on a study desk.
"Sweetheart, I am sorry I will make it up to you, okay?."
Carlton wanted to hug his daughter and appease her, he didn't expect for this to happen he only learnt of this in the morning intending to inform her of this drastic news the very next day.
"Its okay, goodnight dad."
He responded back with a simple goodnight, turning off the globe while patting her bed sheet she tucked herself in and wondered if the past could possibly repeat itself, she tossed and turned having a hard time falling asleep.
"I bet you missed me too much, you can't fall asleep."
