I called Irah because my emotions are a mess.
"Hello Irah? I'M FREAKING OUT!" I shouted.
"Yannie? Hello? What is it? What happened?" She said sounding worried.
"Well I downloaded the app and I finally got a match and I don't know what to say so can you please help me?" I said all that in one breathing.
"Hey! Calm down I can't understand a word you said. Talk slowly."
"Okay." I inhaled and then exhaled and collected my thoughts before speaking again.
"I downloaded Ringer—"
"AHHHHHHH!!!!!! So how was it? Did you like it? Did you call to say you already have someone to meet?! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh I'm happy for you!" Irah said sounding excited.
"Okay you calm down. I downloaded Ringer and I've got a match, his name is Gelo. I dunno? Though he seems legit."
"That's good. So? How was he?"
"I don't know yet. That's why I called. How do these apps work?"
"Just be yourself, Yannie. I gotta go my class starts in a few minutes. I'll call you later!"
"Wait!"
But she hung up already. Just be myself? How the heck would I do that? What if Gelo hates an awkward person? Ugh! This is harder than I thought.
I went to our conversation and typed.
'Hi again? Sorry for the late reply.'
No, this sounded too formal. What am I? Writing an email? Okay. You got this, Yannie. You can do this.
"Hi Gelo. Sorry! So where are you from?" That's a good start, right?
"It's okay, Yannie. I'm from New York. How about you?" Hmm. He replies fast. I kinda like this guy.
"Really? Me too. I'm from Queens. I see you're studying at NYU?"
"Yes, actually Queens is like less than 30 mins away from here. Which school do you go to?"
"I go to St. John's. Actually, we can have coffee somewhere in the middle of both of our places." That was a swift move, Yannie. Didn't know you have that in you.
"That sounds nice. How about we meet tomorrow? I'll pick you up at your school and then we grab coffee?" Woah.
I stared at his message. Pick me up? At my school?
