Chapter 46 - Negotiations (3)

At this point, Lin Wanjun spoke with a touch of sadness, "My younger brother used to say that the future of the film and television industry would be dominated by blockbuster productions. Without exceptional special effects technology, we'd always lag behind. So, when he established New Century Entertainment, he also set up X-Lin Special Effects Company in the United States. If he hadn't invested all his money into X-Lin in recent years, New Century Entertainment would have thrived by now. Unfortunately, he's gone now, and all his efforts have gone to waste."

Now it made sense why she had demanded payment in US dollars! Jiang Cheng sighed, closed his eyes for a moment, and silently evaluated the X-Lin Special Effects Company, which he had never heard of before. According to the information in the document, X-Lin primarily specialized in digital technology and had been quite successful over the past two years, primarily working on visual effects for television advertisements. Based on the information provided, the current market value of X-Lin was roughly around 3 million US dollars.

In other words, Lin Wanjun's asking price of 2 million US dollars was actually quite low. Apart from the X-Lin Special Effects Company, New Century Entertainment was practically being given away.

What started as a simple acquisition of an entertainment management company had turned into a surprising windfall. Jiang Cheng didn't know what to say about his luck.

"So, have you made your decision? Do you still think it's too expensive?" Lin Wanjun asked when she saw that both of them were silent.

Taking a deep breath and opening his eyes, Jiang Cheng looked directly at Lin Wanjun and said, "2 million USD. I'll buy it."

"Alright, great!" Lin Wanjun praised, and her other male secretary immediately produced a contract, handing it to Jiang Cheng, saying, "Mr. Jiang, please take a look. If there are no issues, go ahead and sign this contract."

This is crazy! Jiang Cheng thought to himself. He picked up the contract and carefully read through it. It was quite detailed. In the contract, Jiang Cheng would purchase 100% of New Century Entertainment's shares for $2,000,000, gaining ownership of all of New Century Entertainment's assets, including the entertainment management company and the X-Lin Special Effects Company in the United States. Jiang Cheng handed the contract to Xu Lirong for review, and after Xu Lirong confirmed its contents, Jiang Cheng smiled and signed his name on it using the pen he carried with him.

The contract was then passed to Lin Wanjun, who quickly signed her name without hesitation, then let out a sigh of relief. "It's finally over!"

She seemed to have lightened up suddenly, as if she had just unloaded a heavy burden.

Pulling out a checkbook, she wrote a check with a face value of $2 million US dollars, which could be cashed, and handed it to one of her male secretaries. Jiang Cheng took possession of all the relevant documents of New Century Entertainment, officially becoming the owner of the company.

After the transaction was completed, Jiang Cheng had some questions and couldn't help but ask, "Ms. Lin, may I ask why you didn't inform other potential buyers about the X-Lin Special Effects Company? If they knew, they would not have given up on the deal."

With the company now out of her hands, Lin Wanjun seemed to be in a better mood and spoke less coldly, "I couldn't do that."

"Why?"

"This company was my younger brother's lifelong endeavor, and I couldn't just entrust it to anyone."

"Do you trust me then?"

"You're just one aspect of it. I've reviewed your profile and know that you're genuinely talented and passionate about films, and you can elevate this company. But most importantly, it's because of your father!"

"What?" Jiang Cheng was surprised. "What does my dad have to do with this?"

"Your father's name is Jiang Dejun, born in 1961, just turned forty this year. He originally came from Beijing but met your mother in Shanghai. They fell in love at first sight, got married, and had you. They settled in Shanghai." Lin Wanjun recited Jiang Cheng's family history in detail.

Jiang Cheng's expression grew colder, and he asked, "Did you investigate my family?"

Lin Wanjun chuckled lightly and said, "Don't be nervous. I just happen to know your father."

"What? You know my dad?" Jiang Cheng was surprised again.

Nodding, Lin Wanjun sighed suddenly. "We grew up in the same neighborhood, how could I not know him? Back then, our families had a good relationship. I still remember when we were kids, your dad used to tell me stories. In terms of generations, you should even call me 'aunt.' But after your dad got married, we never met again. It's been so many years, and you've grown up!"

Jiang Cheng's head was spinning. He didn't expect to encounter someone who knew his father's past. After clearing his mind, he asked, "So... in all these years, why have I never heard my dad mention anything about Beijing?"

Lin Wanjun sighed again. "Your dad has the same temper as Jiang Bo, unyielding once he makes up his mind. When your parents fell in love, they faced opposition from both sides, especially from your grandfather. At the time, mainland China and Taiwan had strained relations, and there were some grievances between the Jiang family and your mother's family. Jiang Bo adamantly refused to let your dad marry your mom, threatening to disown him if he left the family. Jiang Bo was a man of his word, and after a big fight, he cut ties with your dad. Since then, your dad and your mom settled in Shanghai and never went back to Beijing. I suppose he didn't want to bring up those past events in front of your mother, so he never talked about it to you. It's quite normal for you not to know about our families' relationship."

After digesting this astonishing information, Jiang Cheng asked again, "So, just because of this, you decided to sell the company to me?"

"Yes, is there any other reason needed?" Lin Wanjun smiled again. "Since we have a personal connection, and you're also in this industry, and you agreed to this price, why would I have a reason to refuse?"

Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes and took advantage of the situation, saying, "Well, since we're familiar with each other, why not make it a bit cheaper?"

Hearing the word "familiar," Lin Wanjun became even happier and said, "Kid, let's not mix personal relationships with business. Besides, you should know from the information you've seen that this price is already extremely favorable. Also, this represents your unknown little uncle's lifelong effort!"

Jiang Cheng realized he had misspoken and quickly corrected himself, "Alright, Aunt Lin, you can rest assured. I won't let Uncle Lin's efforts go to waste!"

"Good, I trust you!" Lin Wanjun nodded in satisfaction. Then she asked, "I heard you plan to establish a film studio. Do you have any plans for your next steps?"

Jiang Cheng smiled and replied, "With the film studio in mind, I'll start making movies right away."

"Oh? What kind of movie?" Lin Wanjun was suddenly interested. After all, her short-lived brother had established this company, but they had only worked on a few MVs and TV commercials, never a full-length film.

Jiang Cheng smiled mysteriously, "Just a low-budget movie, but it will be very enjoyable!"
