Chapter 13 - UNEXPECTED

Chatters echoed through the lunch hall,  Elijah observed Aliyah, from across the table, wishing he could comfort her. She seemed lost in her own world starring at the chips on her plate. Just as he made a move to talk to her she stood up turning to Keshia who was busy chatting with Micheal apparently the night of Aliyah's birthday had paid off.

"Hey, I'm gonna step out for a while okay." Aliyah addressed Keshia

guilt clouded Keshia's face as she made to follow her, she felt bad for being insensitive following the event that happened last weekend. She had heard about it after she returned from her trip to her great- grandmother's who had gotten permission to leave the pack and move to Australia.

It was hard leaving school as the final exams before graduation was drawing near but her great-grandmother was sick and needed to see her. Which was surprising since werewolves live long without falling ill. when she got there it seemed her great-grandmother was just homesick.

" I'll go with you" Keshia offered

"no, I would like to be alone" Aliyah walked out, making her way to the field. She found a spot under the trees and sat down as she replayed the events of last week in her mind.

They had all zoomed into action following the alarm, children and women were put in the safe room as the fighters rushed out. It came as a shock to the pack as they have not had a mass rogue attack as this to warrant for the alarm bell to ring in the last four years.

"Aliyah, stay back and protect the women and children along with a few warriors " her father ordered, Aliyah felt insulted she was meant to be fighting in the forefront not babysitting. She did not argue, now was not the time, she had other plans. Aliyah switched off her thoughts not wanting to remember the outcome of her foolishness.

She walked slowly through the field looking for a spot to settle down and wallow in her misery.

Elijah followed silently behind Aliyah, his wolf would not let him leave her seeing she was so downcast. He would prefer angry Aliyah to what he was seeing now.

He knew she felt guilty about what happened. During the chaos, Elijah remembered running towards the weaponry section to help.

Then he saw Leo running towards the same direction"Leo,! wait up" he shouted. catching up with him he ushered him inside handing him more arrows laced with silver. "thanks " Leo ran off changing into his wolf form with the arrows in his mouth.

Elijah was not a fighter but he would not stay here while others fought, grabbing a few things he deemed necessary he went towards the border.

On getting there what he saw made him panic. His pack members were weakened, most of them were sprawled on the floor...how was this possible? he stopped to check one of the fallen wolves.

"you need to turn back to your human form so I can see if I can get any clues, cause you seem okay in wolf form"

The wolf obliged, he checked his pulse, it was weak, then a smell hit him...this smelt exactly like the poison that was used during the shadow pull...how did these rogues get such a large quantity. The mut flower was extremely rare it was almost a miracle to come across one so how did they get it?

He was still thinking hard when he heard a growl, raising his head he saw that Aliyah had come to the battleground against the alpha's wishes, the rogues now surrounded her, she took them out easily but what she did not know was that they were prepared, it seemed they all came towards her ignoring everyone else. Alpha Kalista growled as he sprinted to save his daughter, he was too far.
