Salem watched their new recruit slowly drift off into an exhausted slumber, still wearing her cloak and wings.
Sighing, he deactivated the mask.
Once deactivated, the cloak and wings were sucked into the sides of the mask, after which it turned into a silver locket. He then placed the locket around her neck.
"So, what gave you the idea to create a police force based on Death?" Alina asked teasingly.
"Well, I thought of mass murder and then thought of Death himself." Salem said, standing up.
Ruby, who was just about to say something, paused and looked at him strangely.
"What?" Salem asked Ruby.
"You thought of mass murder and then a police force?" She said disbelievingly. "How are those related?"
"They aren't." Salem said and proceeded to change the subject. "Think she'll do alright?"
"I don't know how you managed it, but you picked someone who will do everything in their power to succeed at the task we have given them." Alina said. "And her moral compass seems sound, aside from her initial drive for revenge."
"I'm not worried about her." Ruby said. "She'll do great."
"When people that are abused or live in fear gain power, they do one of two things." Salem said. "They turn around and abuse others, saying 'if I suffered, so should they.' Or they help others saying 'just because I suffered doesn't mean they have to.' Our little shadow seems to fall under the latter category."
"And that's a good thing, too." Alina said. "Otherwise we would have to kill her."
Ruby nodded in agreement.
"Think I should class up now?" Salem asked. "After the discussion we had about necromancy and using it for golems, I reached full comprehension."
"We'll protect you." Alina said.
"None shall pass." Ruby said.
"Alright, Gandalf." Salem teased. "I'm going to make a cave here so my nanobots aren't seen as much.
Salem had his nanobots devour the ground and hollowed out a cave. Jumping down, he prompted his system to give him upgraded Nanomancer classes.

Salem considered his choices.
'The Nanomantic Splicer is tempting, but I'm not specialized in Nuclear Engineering.' He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. 'Before I make my selection, I should fortify this place so it doesn't collapse.'
Salem made the hole into a massive bunker. He made the walls six inches thick and supported the roof with massive two meter wide pillars, and added several exits if part of the hole still collapsed.
'I choose Elemental Nanomancer.' He thought to the system.
