Chapter 21 - Conquerer

Shi rushed towards the main gate with his summons in tow. When he got there, he saw his men getting slaughtered by a pair of giant, sword-wielding samurai. The samurai were slicing through Shi's men like farmers cutting wheat.

Shi sprinted towards them and leaped up onto one of their chests, slit its throat, and then jumped from the first one's chest onto the second one's back. Shi grabbed the chin of the second samurai and pulled as hard as he could. After a second, the head came off with a pop.

Shi glanced back at the samurai only to see them disintegrate into nothingness. Shi did a quick scan of the battlefield and saw two men standing next to each other on the outskirts of the battle. After pinning the mages, Shi fueled the area around him densely with his mana and then used wind magic to throw his men back before lighting the fuel around him.

White-hot flames burst to life all around Shi, with the flames came the screams. For a minute straight, the castle garrison's cries of agony rang out through the air. Shi cursed himself, he had used too much mana for that show of force.

After the flames died down, Shi strolled towards the two mages he had pinned earlier. To his delight, they had been inside the fire radius and had to shield themselves with water to survive.

"Please tell me that I won't have to kill you, I already wasted good men back there." Shi said casually. One of the men laughed at Shi "You kill the garrison, fight multiple yellow core mages, and pull that fire shit, wasting a lot of mana, and you think we're going to back down from you? I doubt you could even beat one of us at your peak condition, much less both of us as you are now." The man said, summoning his samurai.

Shi sighed, "Why does it always go this way. Everyone thinks that they're better than they are. The last person who pulled this shit is dead now." Shi drew his karambit and brought his summons to his side.

Shi charged the samurai, and when it turned to slash at him he dove past it, letting his reaper summon scythe into the samurai's shoulder. Shi rushed towards the closest mage at full speed and dived to the left when the mage sent a gout of flame at him.

Shi sprang to his feet and lept over a wind blade sent from the other mage. While he was in the air, Shi drew 2 kunai and threw one at each of the mages. The mages swept them aside with wind and shi used the split second that had given him to open an imaginary fault line under one of the mages.

The mage plummeted into the chasm, using wind magic to slow himself before he fell out of sight. Shi slung 4 kunai at different parts of the other mage, forcing him to make a wind barrier to effectively block them. Shi breathed fire at the mage, then jumped over the mage while his sight was blocked by the fire, and stabbed up into his brain stem from behind.

The other mage rose from the opening in the ground as Shi turned from the body. The mage took a second to take the sight in before launching a barrage of different elements at Shi. Shi used most of his remaining mana to erect a small mountain in between him and his opponent then threw a kunai to his right.

Shi sprinted to his left, catching his opponent's attention. As the mage turned towards him, Shi used telekinesis on the flying kunai and turned it towards the mage. The mage grunted as the kunai pierced his back. Shi poured all of his remaining mana into a vortex of white flames which slammed into the mage.

Shi's reaper scythed into the samurai, lodging the scythe in its armor. The samurai stabbed at the reaper who was trying to extricate the scythe from the samurai shoulder. The sword pierced the reaper's stomach, wrenching a horrible wail from the depths of the creature's hood.

The reaper grabbed the samurai by the head and started to squeeze. The samurai slashed at the reaper's arms and midsection but even though it made contact, the reaper didn't flinch. It kept squeezing until there was a crunch and the samurai's head exploded.

Shi fell to one knee from the sheer drain as the fire slammed into the mage. After a few seconds, the fire died out and revealed the mage. He was still standing, although his clothes were torn to pieces and burnt and the skin of his face and torso was sloughing off his body. The mage stumbled towards Shi, looking like a zombie from one of those movies Shi used to watch in his old life.

After a few steps, the mage's upper half slid off of his legs with a squelch. A skeletal hand grabbed the mage by the throat as his legs fell over. With the mage firmly grasped, the reaper did a full rotation to gain momentum before slamming the mage's upper half into the ground.

There was a loud boom and the mage made contact, raising so much dust that it became impossible to see. After nearly an entire minute, the dust cleared enough to see the paste that used to be a man. There was a crater in the middle of the courtyard that was as deep as Shi was tall with a red stain that used to be the mage.

The reaper was standing in the middle of the crater, its hood knocked back revealing a dark grey skeletal head adorned with blood-red rubies set in its temples and across its forehead giving it a kingly look. The shadows in its eye sockets and divots were pitch black. It reflected no light except off of the rubies and from two burning red lights in its eyes.

It looked at Shi with a seemingly self-satisfied expression on its face and disappeared. Shi got up, smirked, then headed off to his camp.
