Chapter 70 - The duo descends the mountain

On top of the mountain, the situation was dire. With Jay gone and the unnamed princess unable to assist for a while due to a lack of mana, their main force had taken a big hit. Geralt had retreated onto the wall while General Green only seemed to care about killing, not taking the big picture into consideration.

A large number of their troops had already given their lives while even more were incapacitated. Geralt was sweating as he had been fighting for many hours end. Yet before exhaustion forced him to back off, many of the betas climbing the walls, died. Even more betas fell off the mountain. Overall it looked like almost a fifth of the betas had simply keeled over and died. Seeing this Geralt smiled, perhaps it was possible to survive this encounter.

A moment after this the bird arrived, yelling loudly for all to hear. It was clear his Lord wanted them to go down to assist him. But how were they to protect the Lords in the middle and their own non-combatants?

Looking back he could see the small Lords looking at the troops protecting them warily, grabbing their weapons in the meantime.

Geralt gritted his teeth upon seeing this. There was no way these people would just let them go, leaving them to die. It was equally impossible to take them out and expect to still have enough warriors left to survive.

Looking around he spotted the unnamed princess sitting in the lotus position, obviously doing so in meditation to regain mana faster. Once he spotted her, he quickly walked towards her with a gloomy look on his face, thinking of the upcoming challenges.

"How much mana do you have left miss?"

His voice disrupted her meditation as she gently opened her eyes. Seeing her Geralt couldn't help but get a little nervous. The princess truly was beautiful despite her goblin father. Furthermore, she was the son of their Lord, because of this he nearly automatically saw her as a superior.

The princess, on the other hand, cared little about who was in charge. She only had three desires. Her first desire was to become more powerful so that she could earn her father's recognition. This was the reason she worked as hard as she did, training whenever she was awake.

Her second desire was to give old man Von Hauser a life without worries. The old man had taught her personally and she felt very fond of him.

Her final desire was to rid herself of the goblin DNA within her blood. She was willing to go to the edge of the world if it could rid her of the green color of her skin. She didn't find it beautiful like Jay, she thought it tainted her, made her less civilized.

Leaving this string of thoughts behind, She looked at the man before her before speaking steadily.

"I'm full, let's get going now shall we."

Speaking these words she looked at the situation before her calmly. It was only now that she realized there were quite a number of betas less compared to before she went meditating.

Hearing her words Geralt nodded, moving towards the edge of the mountain. In their way was a couple of betas. These shelled creatures weren't much of a problem for the energized Geralt though. His spear flashed forward quickly, a beta dying in just a few strikes.

When he arrived at the edge he paused a moment, the nameless princess soon joining him. At this point, the red sun shined brighter than ever before. The red shine covered them and the soldiers defending the wall looked at their backs.

Some would expect the soldiers to become less invigorated when their superiors would stand with their backs towards them, but in this case the very opposite was true. When the men and women upon the wall looked at their backs they felt more powerful. Both of the people standing there used to be just like them. Yet thanks to their hard work they had gained power high above the others.

Something else they noticed was that these were the people most loyal to their Lord. At this point, many of the soldiers had already deified their Lord. Many of them still remembered the light that reached out from the skies, illuminating their Lord, healing him from all wounds, raising his power even further in the progress.

Even those from Twin City had witnessed his scene from afar. When they realized the lights came from their new Lord and his most trusted General their loyalty also skyrocketed, that combined with their improved living condition made them almost as loyal as his other subordinates.

The duo stood atop the edge before the nameless princess spoke, a hint of a smile on her lips.

"ready?"

Before Geralt even had the opportunity to answer, she had already jumped off the mountain, pulling him with her.

Despite this Geralt didn't get nervous. The princess wasn't an idiot and surely had a plan. They fell down quicker and quicker, the ground coming closer and closer, passing by thousands of betas climbing the walls beside them.

When they were just a few dozen meters away from the ground below the princess cast a spell, suddenly Geralt felt their fall slowing down immensely. In the last few meters, they simply floated onto the ground below, not taking any damage whatsoever.

Sadly they weren't as lucky as Jay was before, as soon as they landed they had already been surrounded by dozens of betas, all of them aware of their presence.

Yet it was now that Geralt's gloomy look disappeared. Unlike others within the army, he always found loss of life to be a sad occurrence. Even if it were their enemies that lost their lives. Yet despite this, whenever he truly got into battle these thoughts disappeared. His spear becoming covered in the blood of their enemies within mere moments. Excitement rushing through his very veins.

This time was no different, with his spear in his hand he took a step forward, his spear shooting forward piercing straight through the carapace of one of the creatures.
