Chapter 1 - Prologue

"Mother please"

"I am not your mother!"

Bam!

A girl was slapped so hard and fell on the floor. Her ponytail hair was messy, her face was sweaty, with tears that were black due to mascara running down her swollen cheeks and her nose full of snorts.

With an aura of that of a ruling queen, Mrs. Hanks glared daggers into her. She was breathless with anger. Her eyes were glowering down at her with disgust and resentment.

No one ever imagined, that Mother Hanks had such a reaction when she was angry. The kind of looks she gave her sent chills down everyone present spine. The way she was looking at her, one could think that her precious son was tortured, burnt and fed to the sharks by Melissa Pritt.

Beside Mother Hanks, there stood Lisa Brownell. She could have graced any billboard or magazine cover, but she was better than those two dimensional photoshopped models.

Lisa Brownell had this innocent look that could capture anyone's heartstrings, like it did the Hank family. Her tall height and great body curves, excellent family background, adverse knowledge made her aura overwhelm people like Melissa Pritt who had no family background, no money, no confidence and self-love. Even the little dignity she had upheld while growing up, was smashed, crushed and stepped on every day, for eight months by her husband, Robert Hanks and his family. She was lifeless. A living shell.

However, Lisa was the perfect Mrs Hanks. Just the best to stand beside Robert Hanks. Mother Hanks could not help but smile secretly at the thought of Robert and Lisa's

children. How beautiful would they be.

Melissa Pritt had heard about how evil mother in laws can be, but never in her wildest dreams did she think that she'd have a real devil as a mother in law. To be exact, all those mother in laws in the stories she had heard were saints compared to mother Hanks.

"Sign these!" Mother Hanks snarled as she threw some documents and a pen at Melissa Pritt on the floor and then went to seat on the sofa like the queen that she is. Lisa stood behind her and just rubbed mother Hanks shoulders to calm her down.

The room was silent. Only the sobs and sniffs from Melissa and the tik tok sound of the clock could be heard.

Melissa took the papers then looked at Mother Hanks who was sipping tea that a servant had just brought to her.

"Divorce papers," mother hanks said as if understanding Melissa's confusion.

"You are not supposed to get a single dime from this divorce.

You are not to talk to the media about anything about this family.

You are never going to look for Robert or interfere with his life; no matter what," mother Hanks looked at Lisa who smiled in appreciation.

"And from us, we will never bother with your life. We want nothing from you... as if there is something you can give us," mother Hanks sneered.

Melissa's stomach was twisting, her hands trembling while holding the documents and the pen. Her cheeks were burning with mixture of fear and fury.

"Is this it? I'm free?"

A feeling of euphoria started rising in her but it was short lived after she reminisced about everything she went through and thought that divorce was too easy for them. A little devil inside her was just telling her to stay and punish them with her presence.

But, was it worth it? Did she have the courage to do that? Absolutely not.

" I don't have all the time Melissa. Sign the damn papers!" Mother Hanks said disrupting Melissa's train of thoughts.

Melissa looked at everyone around. The hateful mother Hanks, father Hanks Robert's uncles, aunts and cousins and finally, Lisa. However, she was looking for one particular person.

"Where is he?" she wondered.

As she scanned around, she saw him, standing on the stairs like a god that he is. Melissa in a spur of a moment couldn't help but swoon over this man. Her husband.

He had the kind of face that stopped you in your tracks. Melissa thought that he was so used to that, the sudden pause in a person's natural expression when they looked his way followed by overcompensating with a nonchalant gaze and a weak smile.

But this was soon was going to be over. She could not help but feel hate over this man. A man who never gave her a sense of love, care, security or even hope for the future. Even now, he was just looking.

"What did you expect Melissa?" she thought disdainfully.

She took the open and was about to sign–

"She is not going to sign any divorce paper!"
