Chapter 193 - Why do you treat me like a bomb?

Joseph beamed and nodded. He had expected Aria to tell him she was really tired and ask to be left alone.

Joseph himself did not seemed to have realised how much he loved being around Aria. Aria of course had realised this, that was why she was always pushing Joseph away. It was not right for anyone to get too close to her. This was the exact reason Aria had not tried to talk to Helen ever since that day. She was better off not being friends with Aria.

But tonight Aria was mentally exhausted and she was not sure if she would be fine alone. For the first time in eight years Aria had decided that she needed someone, and she had subconsciously asked Joseph to stay and talk with her.

Aria was wondering if what she was doing was right? If she was right in letting Joseph stay for a while? Won't it get his hopes up and in more danger if what she was ever came to light?

Aria was pulled from her thoughts as Joseph clapped his hands and said, "Okay fine. It's my birthday in two days. What are you planning to give me as a gift?"

Aria rolled her eyes, "You're so rich! And you have the audicity to ask me for a gift? You should be gifting people instead!!"

Joseph laughed, "Yeah I'm rich. But I'm also a miser. I need a gift."

Aria smirked, "How about a punch in the stomach? Or a kick to your knee?"

Joseph chuckled, "Great ideas. But I was thinking more along the lines of a date."

Aria pursued her lips and shook her head.

Joseph immediately spoke, "Don't. Don't overthink. I was just kidding. You don't need to get me anything."

Aria sighed with a smile, "Why do you treat me like a bomb? Like I'll explode with any joke you make?"

Joseph scratched his head.

Half an hour later, Joseph quietly covered the sleeping Aria with a blanket and stood beside her. He could stare at her sleeping peacefully for hours and would never get tired of it.

Joseph traced Aria's face with his eyes. Her narrow forehead, thin golden eyebrows, the long eyelashes that seemed to cast a shadow on her eyes as she slept. His gaze ran over her curved nose and her supple cheeks. Joseph had to use quite a bit of self-control not to reach out and stroke her cheeks, he knew Aria would hate him if she ever came to know that. Finally, Joseph's gaze locked onto Aria's ruby red lips.

He stared at her lips, a little parted as she took deep breaths. Joseph's mind ran wild and he gulped before tearing his gaze away and hurriedly putting out the lamp in Aria's room and climbing out of the window.

Who knew what he would do if he stayed even a second longer in the same room as this defenceless Aria.

Joseph climbed into his own room and threw himself on the bed. His breathing was heavy and heartbeat uneven. Joseph's face turned red as his mind wandered over to the sleeping figure in the room just a few paces away. He shook his head and sighed, "Stop it Joseph. Aria will kill you if she hears what's going on in your mind right now." Joseph rolled over and closed his eyes.
