Chapter 21 - Warm hands

'She just called me fuckin' horny,' the crow stopped thinking about it and looked at the piece of bread.

It was the same stale bread. He frowned.

'Why does she eat stale bread all the time? It's not good for her body.'

"Damn, this is all my fault. I should've hidden you better," the girl says in a bitter voice.

'Hide? Leela...why?'

The crow doesn't know what to think. She starts to laugh bitterly.

"That stupid ass car. If only I didn't get caught up with those guys and made it to you faster, I would have been able to run away with you safe and sound," she stood up and walked to the car.

'She was involved in the accident?'

The crow looked shocked as he tried to piece together how she was involved in the accident.

'Isn't she injured?'

That's when the crow noticed how she slightly limped as she walked. He didn't notice the limp when she was running since she was so fast. She also winced whenever she lifted her arm up to eat her bread. The crow started to boil with anger. Who in their right minds would attack a girl like that?

'Who the hell- '

BAAM. BAAM. BAAM.

The girl took a long stick from a fallen tree and started to destroy the car.

'This stupid...SHE'S GONNA HURT HERSELF EVEN MORE'

The crow flew and landed on her back.

"OUCH!" she howled.

The crow jumped off instantly.

"You dummy! Don't land on my back like that," she crouched down in pain, as she touched a spot on her shoulder.

"I got a bruise there ya know. Land on my head or something," she turned around, "actually don't land on me at all. Go away! Shoo!"

She tried shooing him away. The crow felt so frustrated that he couldn't help her. He just got in the way of her. He flapped his wings on a rock as he tried to figure out how to help her. Suddenly from the car, a blue little thing rustled its wings.

'Is that a bird?' The crow tried to peer at what was inside, but the shattered glass made it hard for him to see clearly inside the van.

The girl went back to venting her frustration out on the car. The blue thing started to flap its wings again.

'Oh screw it…'

"SQUAWK! SQUAWK! SQUAWK!"

She couldn't hear him from the loud destruction she was inflicting on the vehicle.

"SQUAWK! SQUAWK! SQUAWK! SQUAWK! SQUAWK! SQUAWK!"

The crow flapped his wings at the girl and she looked back.

"Yes? Mr. Clingy Crow, do you want to eat more bread?" she started pulling something out of her pocket.

'What? No!'

The crow grabbed onto the stick in her hand with his beak and pulled it out of her grip. He then flew around to the other side of the van and pointed at the blue thing.

"Wait...Is that…?"

The girl ran to the side of the car and she tried to pry open the door.

"Oh yeah, it's jammed from the inside," she remembered.

'What the hell? Was she stuck in the car?'

In the next second the girl stuck her hand in the van, and through the broken pieces of glass and metal, she felt around and touched the blue animal.

"Leela…? Is that you?" her voice broke.

'You crazy girl, you're gonna cut your arms-'

The crow was going to pull her back by the cloak when she pulled out a small animal from the inside.

Sporting a few cuts on her hand, the girl brushed off the glass pieces and cradled a small animal. Blood dripped from a cut on the animal. The crow couldn't see what animal it was since the girl put it immediately into her cloak and cooed softly.

'Wow, she cares for that thing so much.'

The girl turned to the crow. He couldn't see her face so he didn't know what she was thinking. As he tried to figure out what to do next, she bent down and kissed the top of his head. She gathered him into her arms and sat him on top of a rock. The crow sat shocked. He didn't know how to react-

"Thank you, Mr. Clingy Crow," he heard a smile in her voice as she said this, "as thanks, I'll give you my best loaf of bread."

She gave him another loaf of bread.

'How much bread does she even store in there?'

He shook his head as the girl pet him on the head once more before getting up.

"Go home, little birdy."

She left with her small animal in the safety of her arms. The crow flopped onto the rock beside him.

'She ran for such a long time, injured and screaming her voice hoarse for such a small animal.'

The crow covered his eyes with one of its wings.

'Just how much love does she hold for that animal?'

The crow looked at the sky. The stars winked at him and new thoughts formed in his head.

'What if I come to see you every day, little thug?'

The crow smiled. He felt the top of his head and his heart thumped a little. He kept on thinking about the warmth of her small hands and he rolled over. The loaf of bread that she left sat beside him and a small bug started to eat at it.

'Go away fucker, that's mine.'

He flicked the bug away and took the bread. He ate it. He also ate the one he had left before that. His eyes widened.

'Is this homemade? Why does this bread taste so good?'

He felt guilty for thinking that the stale bread was going to be disgusting.

'I'll just come for more tomorrow.'

With that, the bird flew off into the night. For once, thinking about careless things and thoughts about the little thug and her small warm hands.

........

"Your Highness, you keep touching your forehead. Shall I bring some medicine to relieve your headache?" Shareef spoke from beside the Prince.

The Prince looked towards Shareef and then turned his head away.

"*cough* No. Go and bring me Khorasa and Fariq," the Prince waved the butler away.

Just as he heard the door shut, he leaned his head against the wall.

'What the hell am I doing?'

As soon as he came back, he flopped on his sofa after wrapping his robes around him, and grabbed his tube.

'What is this weird feeling?'

He blew from his pipe as he thought about what happened. A small smile played on the Prince's lips as he recalled what happened.

"This might not be so bad…"
