Jake Clement was a young boy who was born into a poor family who already had two kids to worry about, So he was just pushed to the background.
He had an older brother named Jack who wasn't too nice to him often threatening him and abusing him one time even hitting jake in the head with a bat.
He just accepted it because it was the only way for him to have someone's attention on him even if just for a second. He also had an older sister named Janice but she was more protective of the older brother.
It was understandable since they had a different father then jake, and it was easier for them to get along. He was lonely and it didnt help that every time he tried to speak he was told to be quiet.
He was homeschooled and moved around a lot so it was hard for him to make friends, But since he threw absorbed himself into tv, games, and reading he could make do with what he had
He was a kid who wanted nothing more than to be somebody. He tried every day to try and get his family's attention, although he rarely did and it was never for long. it wasn't all bad his mom and dad cared they just didn't have time for him, But at least his grandparents did.
His grandfather was a man named bernard and his grandmother a woman named betty who cared about him and feed him too much and he began to gain weight after a while and that didn't help his social awkwardness.
When he was put into middle school it didnt feel right this boy who was so alone for so long no longer wanted the attention he just wanted to be alone but he ended up making some "friends" but they were just taking advantage of the fact that he was the "smart kid"
Jake didnt mind and he just wanted to fit in so he studied harder and even read a whole dictionary just so they could keep being his friends but after a while, they left him alone too. he was a good target for bullies so he got into fights often, And didnt tell his family he just went home and ate the pain away and that would help, But he just wanted to disappear to stop existing to not have to try and fit in.
He kept trying to make things better so every morning he went to school with a forced smile, and just hoped that he could make just one friend but all he got was called names. He was ready to give up but one thing happened that changed his life and changed how he saw the world one day he was just sitting and someone made fun of him one of his old so-called friends, and he got in a fight with him. the office expelled him for that and he was transferred to a new middle school his family made fun of him for it too. His heart felt like it had died in his chest he just gave up every night he dreamt of just finally biting the bullet just anything to get off this wicked world.
He sank deeper and deeper into despair and just went through the motions at school until one day jake was deep in his head and someone gripped his shoulder and ask a question "where you from dude? you look depressed" the voice asked Jake snapped out of his stupor and looked to the desk next to him. there was a boy next to him about his age giving him an innocent and inquisitive look.
He began to respond "Uh what d-did you s-say" the boy repeated himself "oh I'm jake I just transferred in" Jake looked at the boy up and down trying to figure out his motives and the bot spoke again "Cool nice to meet you I'm Chris i saw you got an A on the test" Jake knew what this was now the kid wanted to copy they always wanted to do this and he would be left behind when it was done but the kid kept talking "How about we have a friendly wager?" Jake was stunned " What kind of wager?" the boy grabbed the new vocabulary test from his desk and said "Let's see who can finish faster and get a better score you in?" jake was perplexed but he was prideful his vocabulary and since he had nothing to lose he decided to take the kid up on the offer and they sat and waited till the teacher said to start and they both flipped the paper as fast as they could and began answering the questions as fast as they could jake looked at Chris who was so far keeping up with him and began to smile and worked harder and faster after about 3 minutes they both finished at the same time and ran towards the teacher's desk to turn it in they were neck and neck but Chris was faster. Chris jumped over a desk and jake had to go around it. Chris got there first, and said "Yes! I win!" and began to do a little dance but jake put down his paper calmly and started chuckling "What's so funny?" Jake pointed to the teacher's desk at both papers that's when Chris noticed he hadn't written his name his face was stunned "That means i win" jake smirked for the first time in a long time and it felt good but both of them started to argue whether it was fair but they were both stopped by the teacher who said "SO...you guys had a little contest huh? And did this contest involve you disrupting the WHOLE CLASS jake, Chris go sit outside NOW" Both of the boys put their heads down and walked outside The teacher followed and said "I'll tell you two when you can come back in" She shut the door behind her.
The boys looked at the door then each other and began to burst out laughing It was the first time jake laughed that hard ever " If you think that's funny wait till you meet the rest of my friends" Chris said, "I'll introduce you tomorrow at lunch how about it?" Jake looked at Chris for a second and smiled "sure why not" Jake let out a big grin and so did Chris they were friends from this point forward and after school jake still had that grin on his face. He could barely sleep a wink becuse for the first time he was just so excited to go to school tomorrow.
